Genetic and Rare Disease Diagnoses: A Review of Resources for Patients and Health Care Professionals

Abstract

This article reviews genetic and rare disease resources from the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health that assist patients and their families to decipher the complexity of rare and genetically related diseases. Librarians can use these resources to guide those seeking genetic information that encompasses the medical, social, psychological, and financial aspects of living with a rare disease. Physicians and healthcare professionals will find these resources helpful when assisting patients and engaging in genetic research.

教学的语言修养，就过去和现在都社稷甚少。21世纪的今天，教育的高速发展，要求我们不仅要不断掌握现代的专业知识和技能，根本问题是提高体育教师的综合素质，尤其是语言文学的职业修养。这是体育发展赋予我们的时代特征。更是体育教学发展的迫切需要。本文就体育教学的语言修养问题联系自己多年的体会，以求探索出适合体育教师特有的教育学语言规律；并通过本文启迪，填补体育教学语言的匮乏，以求达到抛砖引玉的效果。     

广州市天河体育中心的公益性分析

从我国体育事业的公益性、体育场馆的国有资产性质、世界体育的发展潮流等方面讨论了广州市天河体育中心公益性开放的理论基础；结合目前公共管理改革的趋势对天河体育中心开放情况进行分析，指出存在经济挖潜和公益开放不够两方面的问题，并提出了相应的建议。     

高校2011协同创新中心文献保障的实证分析——以武汉大学为例

[目的/意义]调查高校图书馆对2011协同创新中心的文献保障情况,提出改善文献保障工作的建议,以支持协同创新中心的发展。[方法/过程]以武汉大学为例,统计武汉大学牵头和参与建设的3所协同创新中心发表中文期刊论文的引文信息,通过数据分析归纳出引文特征,并将这些引文与武汉大学图书馆馆藏资源进行比对,计算出武汉大学图书馆对3所协同创新中心的文献保障情况。[结果/结论]高校图书馆应通过探索协同保障机制、重视特种文献资源建设、提高馆藏资源可发现性和利用开放存取资源等方式来提高协同创新中心文献保障的效果。     

“新工科”背景下国家级实验教学示范中心建设与实践

"新工科"目前已进入实际建设阶段,其目的是培养一批适应和引领新技术、新产业的创新型工程科技人才。国家级实验教学示范中心是高等学校组织高水平实验/实践教学、培养学生工程实践能力和创新创业精神的重要教学基地,在建设过程中需要及时更新教学理念与教学模式,以适应"新工科"建设的内涵。本文以西安交通大学"机械基础"和"机械工程专业"两个国家级实验教学示范中心为例,从中心硬件平台建设、实验教学体系及教学模式等方面详细阐述了国家级实验教学示范中心在"新工科"背景下的建设理念和建设成效,以期为同类实验教学基地(机构)建设提供参考和借鉴。

文章通过分析高校图书馆开展面向创新驱动的知识产权信息服务的意义和价值,运用扎根理论构建创新驱动视域下的高校图书馆知识产权信息服务中心体系理论框架,提出面向创新的高校图书馆知识产权信息服务中心体系的核心要素、管理模式、功能模块及保障措施,为高校图书馆知识产权信息服务中心高质量发展提供理论参考和实践方向。     

Map and Geospatial Research and Reference Services at a Large Public Library: An Overview of the Leventhal Map Center

The Norman B. Leventhal Map Center (LMC) is a non-profit organization that provides stewardship of the Boston Public Library's (BPL) cartographic collections. The LMC moved into a new space in 2011 that displays rotating exhibitions and opens the collection for public inquiry, increasing awareness of reference services and research within the collection. In-person research numbers have declined slightly since 2012 as the LMC grows their digital collections. The LMC has made additional efforts to address increasing interest from tech-enabled researchers through the creation of a new digital collections website, by use of personas to inform design and providing workshops aimed at lowering the bar for entry into using GIS, and creating digital spatial indexes to supplement paper map indexes.

Expanding the role of the interpreter to include multiple facets of intercultural communication

Intercultural communication difficulties include language factors handled well by interpreters, but the problems also include factors such as non-verbal behavior, different bases for making attributions about others, and biases stemming from the ingroup-outgroup distinction. Interpreters could expand their role by incorporating these additional facets of intercultural communication into their work. The job enlargement could have such beneficial effects as greater satisfaction, productivity, and pride in the profession. The enlargement would also increase the visibility of the profession, especially at a permanent organization where interpreters and elected representatives could form stronger relationships than those common at ad hoc meetings held in different places.
