Administrators need intense support in their early years in their jobs to master the demands of the position and to emerge as effective leaders for their schools. This article reports on a leadership coaching program offered by a university to support graduates as they transition to new school leadership roles. First year research results of the Program for New Principals indicate that all of the program participants felt that the coaching program was a positive addition to the induction experience for new administrators. New principals viewed coaching positively and emphasized that it is both a valuable and unique form of professional development. Both coaches and new principals cited personalized support as one of the coaching model's most significant assets. The results should inform the development of a model of leadership coaching for new administrators.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Professional development is a critical systems-level intervention thought to facilitate Response-to-Intervention (RtI) implementation. The current study examined the relations between professional development, educator outcomes, and problem-solving implementation within an RtI framework using growth curve modeling. School leadership teams from pilot schools (= 34) participated in 3 years of training. Pilot schools also received job-embedded coaching. Comparison schools (= 27) provided a referent group. Results indicated that problem-solving implementation increased faster at pilot schools (β = 0.10, SE = 0.05, t = 2.03, p < .05). In addition, beliefs regarding data-based decision-making (β = 0.36, SE = 0.17, t = 2.13, p < .05) and perceived problem-solving skills applied to academics (β = 0.30, SE = 0.10, t = 3.07, < .01) positively related to implementation. Implications include the needs to further explore professional development activities and for consultants to utilize evidence-based professional development principles when supporting RtI implementation.  相似文献

竞技体育运动训练专业学生的英语水平总体偏低,英语口语交际能力尤其薄弱,英语口语教与学成为一直困扰教师和学生的难题。通过教学实验和问卷调查,研究了如何有效地在大学英语口语教学中运用合作学习策略,提高竞技体育运动训练专业学生的英语口语水平和口语教学效果,揭示了小组合作学习活动对他们英语口语学习时间与频率、学习态度、学习动机以及交际意愿的影响,总结了课堂教学效果良好的小组合作学习活动案例,合作学习对非智力因素发展的影响和阻碍学生进行课堂和课下小组合作学习的不利因素,对教学实验中的分组策略进行了反思,为竞技体育运动训练专业学生的大学英语口语教学提供借鉴和指导。  相似文献

This study explores the idea of creating a knowledge base from shared online accounts to use in training librarians who perform distance reference services. Through a survey, follow-up interviews and a case study, the investigators explored current and potential use of shared online accounts as training tools. In our study, we examine the factors influencing the implementation of a mathematics coaching initiative at four high schools including the assets an instructional coach brings to the position and the challenges unique to each school. In our case study we include data collected in individual interviews with instructional coaches, focus groups with Algebra I teams, and coaching logs. Four models of coaching behavior emerged from the data collected in the study: coach as facilitator, coach as mediator, coach as dictator, and coach as victim. No role was associated exclusively with any particular instructional coach. However, which role the coach assumed hinged on one or more factors: the coach’s leadership style, the context in which the coach served, and the dynamics of the situation.  相似文献
