‘I found out the hard way’: micro-political workings in professional football

This paper examines the micro-political experiences of Adam (a pseudonym), a newly appointed fitness coach at a Football Association Premier League club, in his search for acceptance by senior colleagues. Data were collected through a series of in-depth, semi-structured interviews, before being subject to a process of inductive analysis. Goffman's writings on impression management and stigma, Kelchtermans's micro-political perspective and Garfinkel's notion of status degradation are primarily utilised to make the sense of Adam's perceptions and actions. The findings point to the value of developing coaches’ micro-political understandings, and of including their formal facilitation within given professional preparation programmes. Doing so, it is argued, would better equip coaches for the problematic realities of their practice.     

Integration of professional judgement and decision-making in high-level adventure sports coaching practice

This study examined the integration of professional judgement and decision-making processes in adventure sports coaching. The study utilised a thematic analysis approach to investigate the decision-making practices of a sample of high-level adventure sports coaches over a series of sessions. Results revealed that, in order to make judgements and decisions in practice, expert coaches employ a range of practical and pedagogic management strategies to create and opportunistically use time for decision-making. These approaches include span of control and time management strategies to facilitate the decision-making process regarding risk management, venue selection, aims, objectives, session content, and differentiation of the coaching process. The implication for coaches, coach education, and accreditation is the recognition and training of the approaches that “create time” for the judgements in practice, namely “creating space to think”. The paper concludes by offering a template for a more expertise-focused progression in adventure sports coaching.     

Coordination and variability in the elite female tennis serve

Enhancing the understanding of coordination and variability in the tennis serve may be of interest to coaches as they work with players to improve performance. The current study examined coordinated joint rotations and variability in the lower limbs, trunk, serving arm and ball location in the elite female tennis serve. Pre-pubescent, pubescent and adult players performed maximal effort flat serves while a 22-camera 500 Hz motion analysis system captured three-dimensional body kinematics. Coordinated joint rotations in the lower limbs and trunk appeared most consistent at the time players left the ground, suggesting that they coordinate the proximal elements of the kinematic chain to ensure that they leave the ground at a consistent time, in a consistent posture. Variability in the two degrees of freedom at the elbow became significantly greater closer to impact in adults, possibly illustrating the mechanical adjustments (compensation) these players employed to manage the changing impact location from serve to serve. Despite the variable ball toss, the temporal composition of the serve was highly consistent and supports previous assertions that players use the location of the ball to regulate their movement. Future work should consider these associations in other populations, while coaches may use the current findings to improve female serve performance.     

“五步辅导法”在高职护考培训中的应用研究

为了解"五步辅导法"在高职护生护士执业考试培训中的应用效果,通过对参加2013年护士执业考试培训的护生进行培训前摸底考试,抽取402名护生,随机分为实验组、对照组,对照组采用传统教学方法培训,实验班采用"五步辅导法"培训。培训结束后,对模拟考试、全国护士执业考试通过率以及主观问卷调查方式对该辅导方式进行效果评价,结果显示:实验组护生模拟考试成绩和护考通过率与对照组相比明显偏高,主观问卷调查满意度与对照组相比也明显提高,差异具有统计学意义(P0.01)。证明该方法有助于提高教学效果,培养护生综合能力,提升护士执业资格考试应试水平。

根据CAI课件设计原理，结合本人的教学经验，对体育测量学CAI软件的设计与应用进行初步探讨。该CAI系统选用独立型的硬件系统，CC－DOS和Foxbasa为操作系统，以及用程序教学理论和个别指导型来设计课件。模拟操作运行和小范围的试用检验了该系统的设计与应用，并提出了建议。     

我国甲级队排球教练员执教效能的研究

运用问卷调查、访谈和数理统计等研究方法,对参加2004年全国排球大奖赛和全国排球锦标赛教练员的执教效能、教练员的个人风格、执教业绩与执教效能的关系等问题进行研究。结果表明,我国甲级队排球教练员执教效能由专项训练效能、创新效能、教育管理效能、指挥效能、学习科研效能、协作效能以及思想修养构成;不同性别、文化程度、运动等级教练员的执教效能没有显著差异;不同执教年限、职称、职务教练员的执教效能有显著差异;年龄对教练员的执教效能有非常显著影响;执教效能与执教业绩相关。
