This study examined the impact of Child Development Associate (CDA) training on the beliefs and practices of early childhood teachers who did not have college degrees or early childhood college coursework. Preschool teachers who were enrolled in CDA classes (n = 76) and a comparison group of teachers (n = 50) completed two surveys of beliefs and practices. Repeated measures Multivariate Analyses of Variance indicated that the CDA training teachers decreased the amount they endorsed beliefs and practices that contrast with Developmentally Appropriate Practice over time more than the comparison teachers. Results suggest that CDA training can be an effective means of increasing the developmentally appropriateness of beliefs and self-reported practices of early childhood teachers, which past research suggests will ultimately impact classroom quality. 相似文献

In this paper, the authors combine Pierre Bourdieu's concept of hysteresis (the ‘fish out of water’ experience) with the discourse historical approach to critical discourse analysis (CDA) as a theoretical and analytical framework through which they examine specific moments in the schooling experiences of one refugee student and one international student, both enrolled in post-compulsory education in Australian mainstream secondary schools. We examine specific moments – as narrated by these students during interviews – in which these students can be described as ‘fish out of water’. As such, this paper takes up the concerns of researchers who call for an examination of the lived geographies and the everyday lives of individual students in mainstream schools. We find that our students' habitus, conditioned by their previous schooling experiences in their home countries, did not match their new Australian schools, resulting in frustration with, and alienation from, their mainstream schools. However, we also note that schools, too, need to adapt and adjust their habitus to the new multicultural world, in which there are international and refugee students among their usual cohort of mainstream students. 相似文献

Olympism has the potential to establish a common ground for tolerance of, and respect for, diversified ideologies. This is indispensable for humanity in the modern world. The 2008 Torch Relay and its representation in the press offers a unique window through which to examine the discursive construction of Olympism by and through the media within the historical and sociopolitical contexts associated with the Games. This paper firstly focuses on the historical development of the Olympic ideology (Olympism) along with the respective mainstream ideologies in China (harmony) and Britain (liberalism). It then attempts to explore the discursive construction of Olympism in the 2008 Torch Relay news coverage by the British and the Chinese media through applying the elaborated analytical approach – corpus-based CDA. This study demonstrates that there are contrasting expressions of Olympism in the media discourse. At a deeper level, this social practice is revealed to be dominated by the mainstream ideologies of the hosting and participating nations that have been entrenched throughout history. The involvement of China in Olympic history and the relevant sociopolitical events surrounding the 2008 Torch Relay are explored. The conclusion reinforces its significant contribution to the study of Olympism in the new era. 相似文献

以批评话语分析为理论框架,以语料库分析为研究方法,分析西方媒体的北京冬奥会报道对中国国家形象的话语表征及意义建构。研究发现,西方媒体对于北京冬奥会的话语表征呈现出“一体多面”的叙事特点,但仍延续了西方媒体对中国国家形象话语表征的负面倾向;西方媒体惯常对中国国家形象的话语建构与报道框架略有改观,议题设置更加多元,客观性和积极性的话语比例有所提升;经济发展是助推国家形象塑造的强大动力,有利于促进中国国家形象有效塑造与传播;西方意识形态偏见及对中国崛起的“霸权焦虑”成为阻碍中国在国际体育中进一步提升话语权和推进国家形象对外传播的制约性因素。西方媒体话语中的中国国家形象,是客观与主观、真实与虚构的综合呈现。打破西方固有偏见,在形象建构的权力博弈中占据主动,是亟待探讨的重要问题。 相似文献
