Explanations of attitudes to change: Colombian mathematics teachers’ conceptions of the crucial determinants of their teaching practices of beginning algebra

This article arises from a study whose overall purpose was to investigate the relationship between Colombian mathematics teachers’ conceptions of beginning algebra and their conceptions of their own teaching practices. The teachers’ understandings of their teaching practices were explored with a view to unravelling their conceptions of change in their teaching. Focusing on the perspectives of teachers afforded opportunities that exposed the powerful role that the teachers’ conceptions of social/institutional factors of teaching played in their conceptions of their practices. The degree to which the teachers attributed these (external) factors as crucial reasons for what they do in their teaching was the basis of a categorisation of their conceptions of the crucial determinants of their teaching practices into three types. The findings are particularly relevant to our understanding of the stability of mathematics teaching approaches in the Colombian context but have likely implications for a range of international education contexts. Specific implications for the development of the research into teachers’ conceptions of mathematics and its teaching, and for teacher education programmes are presented.

郴州话里的"地"是一个纯体标记,与普通话"了1"相比意义更单纯,与动词关系更紧密,使用也更具强制性。在很多南方方言里,都有多个完成体助词,其中一个是纯体标记,如郴州话里的"地";另一些则为消极性体助词,如郴州话里的"呱",还带有一定的词汇意义。这种格局的形成可能与近代汉语的完成体表达系统有关。     

"从心所欲而不逾矩"——论冯友兰晚年哲学史研究与哲学思想的会通

冯友兰的《中国哲学史新编》在方法论上的特色是融会了“新理学”体系、马克思主义和中国哲学史三者的思想观点。在关于唯物唯心的区分上,冯友兰独特地采用了主客观关系,由此把哲学是人生的反思的思想引进哲学史,使之成为研究的元理论。他又通过“具体共相”的概念,沟通了作为精神生活的认识论和人生境界,使得对中国哲学史的评价就不再单纯是从认识论的角度评价的唯物唯心问题,而同时也是或者说更主要的是关涉到人的安身立命的价值问题,从而真正切近了中国哲学的内容,解决了中国哲学存在的价值和意义问题,也实现了对“新理学”的超越复归。这种复归是以理学为基础消融心学的问题,是“从心所欲而不逾矩”。“境界说”作为元理论,使得《中国哲学史新编》超出了20世纪30年代两卷本《中国哲学史》的价值。由此言之,《中国哲学史新编》具有消化马克思主义、总结“新理学”和中国哲学史研究的双重意义。

中国在向现代化转变过程中对当代中国农民提出一系列要求,但农民对这些要求的适应或反应使他们在身份与权利上出现了结构性的严重不对等,最终在一定程度上丧失了"公民地位".因此,从人学视野构建"公民社会"和培育农民的"公民意识"逻辑地成为确立当代中国农民"公民地位"的根本诉求.     

Component skills of text comprehension in less competent Chinese comprehenders

The present study examined the role of verbal working memory (memory span and tongue-twister), two-character Chinese pseudoword reading (two tasks), rapid automatized naming (RAN) (letters and numbers), and phonological segmentation (deletion of rimes and onsets) in inferential text comprehension in Chinese in 31 less competent comprehenders compared with 37 reading comprehension control students and 23 chronological age controls. It was hypothesized that the target students would perform poorly on these cognitive and linguistic tasks as compared with their controls. Furthermore, verbal working memory and pseudoword reading would explain a considerable amount of individual variation in Chinese text comprehension. RAN would have a nonsignificant role in text comprehension. Structural equation analyses and hierarchical multiple regression analyses generally upheld these hypotheses. Our findings support current literature of the role of verbal working memory in reading comprehension found in English. The results, however, suggest differential role of the constructs and the tasks in reading comprehension and provide some answers for comprehension impairment in Chinese students.     

略论近代中国的民族反省

“近代中国的民族反省”,是指近代中国人对本民族的不足——特别是民族心理、民族精神之缺失的批判性的自我体认。大体说来,近代民族反省经历了对器物、制度与文化根本之不足进行反省的三个阶段。从国民性批判及民族精神反思的意义上说,近代民族反省则经历了鸦片战争之后启蒙的发轫、甲午战争之后国民性反思浪潮的涌起与五四时期国民性批判达到高潮这样三个阶段。自省、旁观、比较成为近代民族反省尤其是国民性批判的三重视野。针砭劣根性、解剖病源、构建民族精神即新国民性,是近代民族反省思潮重点关注的三个问题。
