Professional development for professional learners: teachers’ experiences in Norway,Germany and England

Proposals made by the European Commission in 2007 led to the Education Council adopting, for the first time, a European agenda for improving the quality of teaching and teacher education. This article reports on a small-scale longitudinal interview-based study with teachers in England, Norway and Germany demonstrating that while opportunities for professional development are increasing in all three countries, dissatisfaction is expressed by most teachers in relation to its quality and outcomes.     

Exploring staff perceptions of student plagiarism

This paper presents analysis of qualitative data from a research project looking at staff perceptions of plagiarism at a post‐1992 university. Twenty‐six members of staff from departments and academic schools from across the university took part in open and semi‐structured interviews. Analysis shows that variable definitions of plagiarism exist; both regarding student activities that constitute plagiarism and the way in which plagiarism is perceived to be related to cheating. The factors underlying these personal definitions are unclear, but the analysis suggests that values perceived to underpin higher education may play an important role. This paper provides new empirical data on staff perceptions of student plagiarism, which complement previous research on student perceptions. The potential implications of different perceptions of plagiarism, and a mismatch between staff and student understandings is highlighted as an area for further consideration.

联合国启动"可持续发展教育十年(2005-201 4)实施计划"至今已过了大半时间,许多国家和地区根据本国或本地区的政治、经济、文化发展的特点,为落实这一计划做了大量的工作,也取得了相当的实效。本文在回顾联合国"可持续发展教育十年实施计划"诞生经过之后,介绍了日本如何结合本国实际,为落实计划而开展的各种令人耳目一新的教育实践活动,期望通过这样的论述和介绍为我国今后更好地落实科学发展观,有效开展"可持续发展教育"提供借鉴。

档案学发展的动力主要来源于档案学共同体的作用、需求牵引、技术推动,但是目前在档案学发展过程中,普遍存在着档案学共同体自身存在不足、社会有效需求不足、对信息技术融合创新不够的问题,造成档案学发展的动力源缺失。能否解决发展的动力问题,是决定档案学命运的关键因素。     

The effect of interactivity on initial interactions: the influence of information valence and modality and information richness on computer‐mediated interaction

Research investigating relationship development through computer‐mediated channels has failed to acknowledge the importance of initial interactions. Increasingly, multimodal forms of communication, such as audio‐ and videoconferencing, in addition to text‐only formats have emerged on socially oriented websites designed for relationship initiation. Utilizing the principle of interactivity as a conceptual framework, the present study investigates whether increased structural interactivity provided by the additional aural and visual modalities influences initial interaction processes and outcomes online. The results indicate that increased availability of nonverbal modalities, combined with the valence of the information acquired, significantly affected interaction involvement and mutuality, which are markers of processual interactivity, as well as the interaction outcomes of uncertainty, predicted outcome value, and information seeking. Additional analysis revealed that mutuality mediated the effect of richness on postinteraction uncertainty level and the evaluations of future relationship potential.
