The Impact of Individual Differences and Group Diversity on Group Interaction Climate and Satisfaction: A Test of the Effective Intercultural Workgroup Communication Theory

Abstract

This study examined individual- and group-level effects of culture and cultural diversity on group interaction climate and satisfaction. Employees from 41 workgroups completed self-construal, face concern, interaction climate, and satisfaction questionnaires. Though analysis of ethnic diversity indicated that group diversity was positively related to perceptions of interaction climate, and had no association with satisfaction, multi-level analysis indicated that as ethnic diversity of the group increased, members of majority and minority ethnic groups had different perceptions of interaction climate and satisfaction. Results demonstrate the importance of considering individual-level manifestations of culture, group-level diversity, and the multi-level combination for workgroup analysis.

Teachers as readers: building communities of readers

Given the narrow scope of primary teachers' knowledge and use of children's literature identified in Phase I of Teachers as Readers (2006–2007), the core goal of the Phase II project was to improve teachers' knowledge and experience of such literature in order to help them increase children's motivation and enthusiasm for reading, especially those less successful in literacy. The year‐long Phase II project, Teachers as Readers: Building Communities of Readers, which was undertaken in five Local Authorities (LAs) in England, also sought to build new relationships with parents and families and to explore the concept of a “Reading Teacher (RT): a teacher who reads and a reader who teaches” (Commeyras and colleagues). The research design was multilayered; involving data collection at individual, school and LA levels, and using a range of quantitative and qualitative data research methods and tools. This paper provides an overview of the Phase II research. It suggests that teachers need support if they are to develop children's reading for pleasure, and enhance their involvement as socially engaged and self‐motivated readers.     

高校教师教育技术素养提升策略探索

在信息时代,教师教育技术素养的高低,直接关系到素质教育、创新教育的成败,因此提升高校教师的教育技术素养显得非常重要。在借鉴前人及同行研究成果的基础上,提出了一个高校教师教育技术素养提升策略模式,分别从加大高校教学资源建设力度、进行教育技术培训、创设教师教育技术素养跟踪评价平台进行跟踪评价、建立提高高校教师教育技术素养的长效保障机制等角度进行了探索。     

农村远程教育条件下中小学教师的信息化教学能力培训的探讨

山西省农村远程教育实施3年内,教师信息技术能力得到不同程度的发展,但也存在一些问题。在对山西省12个行政辖区中小学信息化教学能力培训现状及培训后实施效果进行了调研,分析了信息化教学能力培训存在的问题及成因,并结合调研对象的实际状况,有针对性提出了改进的建议和对策。     

农村换岗教师教育技术培训的设计与实践研究

农村基层教师的教育技术培训是广大农村实现教育信息化的关键所在。本文分析了农村换岗教师的基本情况及其培训需求,并结合《中小学教师教育技术能力标准(试行)》的要求、教育技术培训的特点,从培训的目标与定位、培训内容的确定与培训方法的选择、培训指导教师的定位、培训效果的评价方法等方面出发,具体设计实践了一套教育技术培训方案。该方案积极营造教师学习与应用信息技术的环境,为提升农村教师教育技术的水平,推进农村教育的信息化提供了可操作的培训方法。     

First Do No Harm: Emotional Maltreatment in the Classroom

Emotional maltreatment of children is occurring in classrooms daily and professionals sometimes are unaware of it. We are bound by a Code of Ethics, which states that we have a responsibility to intervene when children are harmed. Most professionals are unaware of how emotional maltreatment looks in the classroom and what they can do to prevent it. We have addressed what emotional maltreatment look like in the classroom and what teachers and parents can do to help to change this frequently occurring situation. The editorial presents a scenario of a first grade child who is experiencing emotional maltreatment in the classroom and strategies for parents and professionals to use when they observe emotional maltreatment in the classroom.
