A shorter set reduces the loss of cardiac autonomic and baroreflex control after resistance exercise

Set configuration may affect the recovery pattern of cardiac vagal autonomic and reflex modulation after a resistance exercise, since it is closely associated with intensity and volume and determines the metabolic involvement of the session. We tested the hypothesis that longer set configurations have a higher impact on cardiac autonomic control and baroreflex sensitivity compared with shorter set configurations. We studied the effects of three set configurations with the same components of work on the cardiac autonomic control and baroreflex sensitivity. Seventeen subjects performed one control session and three experimental sessions of a leg-press exercise with the same volume (40 repetitions), resting time (720?s) and intensity (10RM load): (a) 5 sets of 8 repetitions with 3?min of rest between sets (8S), (b) 10 sets of 4 repetitions with 80?s of rest between sets (4S) and (c) 40 sets of 1 repetition with 18.5?s of rest between each repetition (1S). Longer set configurations (8S and 4S) induced greater reductions of the vagal cardiac autonomic control and baroreflex sensitivity (p?≤?.001) compared with a shorter set configuration (1S). Also, 1S had non-significant reductions versus the control session (p?>?.05). These findings suggest that a shorter set configuration can reduce the impact of resistance exercise on the post-exercise cardiac vagal autonomic control and baroreflex sensitivity.

628例尿沉渣检验中几个问题的分析探讨

目的:通过对门诊628例尿常规检查结果的分析,说明尿常规检查做到细致准确的必要性以及实际体会。方法:尿常规检查采用手工标准化方法结合干化学试带法,使结果更加准确可靠。结果:尿糖阳性的病人尿液中真菌检出率为11.8％。而尿糖阴性的病人尿液中真菌检出率为0.5％(P<0.01);肉眼血尿病人尿液脱落细胞检查可以为临床提供泌尿系肿瘤的信息;尿沉渣中红细胞达满视野/高倍,随蛋白尿加重,出现的频率增多,且红细胞形态呈非均一性比率增大(P<0.01)。结论:尿常规检查不但要做准,而且要求做得更细,真正为临床提供及时可靠的诊疗依据。     

But This Is How We Have Always Done It: Overcoming Resistance to Change in the Quest to Support Distance Learners

The Standards for Distance Learning Library Services created by the Association of College and Research Libraries asks the distance learning librarian to be an advocate for an institutional culture of support for distance learners. The Standards make it clear that the distance learning librarian must initiate and participate in institution-wide projects. However, both individuals and organizations in which they serve struggle with change, and such resistance to change is a major barrier to creating a supportive institutional culture and convincing colleagues to participate in collaborative projects. Librarians using the Standards to guide their work must understand how to strategically manage resistance to change. This article will discuss how one online learning librarian used leadership and project management practices to address resistance to change in the library organization and across the college. It gives practical recommendations for leadership and project management skills that will help distance learning librarians and others working to enact the Standards at their academic institutions.     

Learning to teach for reconciliation in Canada: Potential,resistance and stumbling forward

Following Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report and global interest in teachers' role in national reconciliation, this paper presents a study at two universities involving non-Indigenous pre-service teachers whose coursework required them to learn about colonization and its ongoing impacts and attempt informal teaching for reconciliation. Using the lens of the scene of rapprochement for analysis, findings point to how the emotional situations that arose and related resistance may be read as an inevitable, but not immobilizing, part of the larger social/psychic dynamic of becoming a teacher – when learning about and attempting to engage others in reconciliation.
