诗性的放逐:中国现代小说创作中的“文体互渗”批评话语

中国现代小说创作中的"文体互渗"批评话语有三种类型:即现代日记体小说、现代童话体小说和现代诗化小说的批评话语。此类"批评话语"皆指涉中国现代作家与对象世界之间确立共存关系而呈现出的一种独特状态,即诗性的彰显与消隐。现代小说创作中"文体互渗"批评话语的诗性放逐是与现代创作主体的个性人格、社会时代意识以及文化精神密切关联的。     

史传论赞流变与通俗小说篇尾诗的生成

史传论赞的文体类型与出现位置等都有其自身的发展规律,如偶尔为之到不规则使用、再到形成定式是其大致方向。通过梳理史传论赞的文体特征、功能及其弊端的流变过程,并将通俗小说篇尾诗的性质特征与之比较,发现通俗小说篇尾诗在其形态特征、功能作用,甚至弊端上都与之极为相似。这些共同的文学功能特征、相似的书法、共同的撰述方法使二者有相当程度的融合点。正因为如此,史传论赞在功能上对通俗小说篇尾诗的形成有启示作用:总结、评议与指示道德价值;在形式上有示范作用:"前导语+韵文"。这正是通俗小说"有诗为证"传统生成的史学背景之一。     

明清小说视域中的海南

明清是中国古代小说繁荣期,也是海南文化鼎盛期。诗文小说《钟情丽集》是明前期海南文教事业大发展的产物。从明代中期开始,海南文化被内地文化“同化”的现象比较显著,其地域特色较少被关注,这在公案小说中有所体现。受交通制约,海南与内陆之间一直存在隔阂,表现在明清志怪小说对海南的描绘,往往掺杂神秘想象和历史记忆。明清时期,海南本土作家极少从事小说创作,这与小说的文化属性及海南文人的文化心态有关。     

“都市病”与新感觉派小说中的身体话语

以施蛰存、刘呐鸥、穆时英为中心的新感觉派在20世纪30年代的中国风靡一时,他们以身体话语作为解构"都市病"的有效手段,揭露上海的纸醉金迷、光怪陆离,通过视觉、听觉、嗅觉、味觉、触觉甚至由此而形成的通感,敏锐地体验世界,从社会态身体、生理态身体和心理态身体三个层面呈现都市人在自我与社会、自我与他人、自我与自我间的龃龉与对抗、分裂与冲突,并以空虚落寞为其美学特征。病态的社会造就了患病的身体——虚妄的眼睛、成了塑像的白金女体和作为面具的笑,作为一种文化符号的身体,从而具有了意味深长的社会历史内涵。而新感觉派对感觉的强调恰恰从反面印证了现代都市人丧失感觉的冷漠。

When Worlds Collide: Dismantling the Science Fiction and Fantasy Collection at the University of New Brunswick,Saint John

The Ward Chipman Library on the Saint John campus of the University of New Brunswick is home to a freestanding collection of over 32,000 science fiction and fantasy works, including reference material, primary works, magazines, and mass market/pulp items from most of the 20th century. Some scholars, including Dr. Farah Mendlesohn of Middlesex University, have described it as one of the best in the world. Active development of this collection ceased in 2000 however, and in recent years it has been primarily used as a popular reading collection, with little academic use. A decision to reduce the collection to one designed solely for academic research was met with great protest, and subsequently the collection was weeded and the remainder moved to storage to free up space for other library initiatives. The article describes the collection, the reasons for the proposed and actual reductions, the protests, and the valuable lessons learned from the experience, including the importance of collection development and management policies, the importance of involving the user community to ensure that everyone's needs are met, and the tensions that sometimes arise when intellectual and practical concerns collide.     

Text Mining and Subject Analysis for Fiction; or,Using Machine Learning and Information Extraction to Assign Subject Headings to Dime Novels

Abstract

This article describes multiple experiments in text mining at Northern Illinois University that were undertaken to improve the efficiency and accuracy of cataloging. It focuses narrowly on subject analysis of dime novels, a format of inexpensive fiction that was popular in the United States between 1860 and 1915. NIU holds more than 55,000 dime novels in its collections, which it is in the process of comprehensively digitizing. Classification, keyword extraction, named-entity recognition, clustering, and topic modeling are discussed as means of assigning subject headings to improve their discoverability by researchers and to increase the productivity of digitization workflows.
