A Comparison of Response Rate,Response Time,and Costs of Mail and Electronic Surveys

Response rates, response time, and costs of mail and electronic surveys were compared. The survey sample consisted of college faculty in the southeastern United States. Mail surveys yielded a higher response rate and a lower rate of unde-liverable surveys. However, receipt of responses was significantly quicker for those delivered electronically, with over 80% of initial responses arriving before receipt of the 1st returned mail survey. The costs associated with distribution of surveys and preparation of data for analysis were much lower with the electronically delivered surveys.     

Analysis of the Effect upon the Reliability Coefficient of Changes in Variables Involved in the Estimation of Test Reliability

First-year algebra high school students of various ability levels were presented lessons concerning the application of geometry theorems. The lessons varied in terms of the complexity of the examples that were shown. After the lessons, students completed a questionnaire concerning their perceptions of the lessons, and then they were tested over the material covered in the lessons. With test scores as the dependent variable, the main effect due to lesson complexity was not significant. With student perception as the dependent variable, significant main effects due to lesson complexity were identified. Significant interactions between lesson complexity and student ability level were identified also. These results are discussed in terms of teaching secondary school mathematics.     

Sexual Bullying in Secondary Schools

Neil Duncan suggests that because of the theoretical perspectives of many of the main researchers involved in investigating bullying, important aspects of this phenomenon have been neglected. Based on findings from research into sexual bullying, it is suggested that the sexual identities formed during adolescence play an important part in producing the kinds of behaviour which are involved in bullying in general. The research findings reported here were the result of structured interviews (themselves developed from earlier work) undertaken with single‐sex groups of boys and girls. The data that these interviews generated have important implications for both researchers and those working with young people in secondary schools.     

Advanced Generalist Practice

Abstract

An enormous challenge faces social work educators as we prepare for the twenty-first century. Most significant is the scramble to understand and respond to contemporary challenges, notably managed health care and welfare reform. The authors present the conceptualization and implementation of an advanced generalist concentration curriculum. Teaching strategies and assignments in a MSW academic and field curriculum are used to illustrate the integration of knowledge necessary to a three-tiered model of practice at the micro, mezzo and macro levels. Finally, results of an alumni survey are presented that lend credence to our contention that graduates are well-prepared to function effectively in today's practice environment.     

社会分层视角下城市体育人口结构及活动特征的研究——以杭、宁、温三城市为例

基于社会分层理论,采用文献资料、问卷调查、数理统计等研究方法,对杭、宁、温三城市体育人口的阶层结构进行了分析,进而揭示了各阶层体育人口活动的时间特征、空间特征、人际环境特征及主要运动项目特征。研究结果为有关部门客观地评价体育大众化程度及构建公共体育服务体系提供参考依据。     

湘、鄂、渝三省市农村体育人口现状的调查研究

运用问卷、走访调查和数理统计、文献资料调研的方法,探索湘、鄂、渝三省市边、少、穷地区农村体育人口的现状,找出该地区农村体育运动发展存在的问题,为制定当地体育发展规划,进一步探索其发展对策提供依据。结果显示：该地区农村体育人口大大低于我国农村体育人口的比例;经济发展落后,体育观念陈旧,基层体育组织缺乏,场地、器材严重不足等是导致该地区体育人口极低的主要原因。建议：利用西部大开发契机,加快边少穷地区农村经济发展,完善基层体育组织建设,改善体育场地设施,从而改善边少穷地区农村的体育局面。     

生产企业物流人才需求的调查研究

有统计表明,超过67％的生产企业其产成品物流费用占销售额5％以上,而作为中国制造业比较集中的苏州地区,制造商物流业务情况值得研究。调查当前苏州地区生产企业物流人才需求情况,发现其招聘岗位主要有仓管类、采购类、物料控制类、关务类、国际贸易类、船务类等,而物流人才需求的学历则以大专、中专为主。     

创新思想政治教育专业课程建设的路径选择——基于德宏师范高等专科学校的调查分析

课程建设是高校教学工作的一项基本建设,是高校教学基本建设的核心,是保证教学质量的基本单元。通过问卷调查方式分析了目前德宏师范高等专科学校思想政治教育专业课程建设存在的问题,对思想政治教育专业课程建设的创新,提出了相关的建议和对策。     

广西聚居少数民族学生体质状况与生活方式调查研究

对7730名广西聚居少数民族大学生身体形态、机能、素质三方面体质状况及生活方式进行调查,采用描述统计、推断统计分析不同健康生活方式对体质结构的影响;设计、发放《少数民族大学生体质状况调查问卷》,调查健康认知、生活习惯、体育锻炼、营养膳食与学生健康水平的相关影响。指出少数民族学生体质综合评价情况与汉族学生存在一定差距,女生营养不良现象突出,存在健康认知差、学习压力大、睡眠质量低、体育锻炼缺等一些不良生活方式,如不有效控制会影响大学生身心健康。提出导入学校“体育健康促进”模式等针对性建议,对民族地区高校大学生体质与健康促进工作进行干预。为国家远程监控少数民族地区学生体质健康研究提供参考依据。
