This study explores the mediation effect of gender role orientation on the influence of sex on coping strategies and how the mediation effects differ across the two cultures of the United States and China. A total of 478 respondents (243 Americans and 235 resident Chinese) participated in this study. Employing Hayes’ (2013) PROCESS for testing moderated mediation models using conditional process analysis, we found that femininity mediated the influence of sex on both emotional and instrumental coping, and the mediation effects were significantly different between American participants and Chinese participants. We also found that national culture moderated the influence of sex on coping strategies when gender role orientation was being held constant. This study adopts an integrated model of sex, gender role orientation, culture, and coping. This model allows us to examine both general and specific relationships among interested variables, which contributes to existing literature in several ways.  相似文献

BackgroundAcquiring more complex coping strategies despite a history of childhood adversity may transpire in settings outside the family home.ObjectivesThe objectives of this cross-sectional study included investigating coping strategies under stressful situations in a non-clinical sample of active athletes and performing artists. Participants and Setting: In this community and university sample (n = 577), 40.4% had no ACEs, 43.4% had 1–3 ACEs, and 16.3% had ≥4 ACEs.MethodsA series of multivariate analyses (gender and age included as covariates) were conducted to examine differences between the three ACE groups.ResultsResults indicated no between-subject differences between the three ACE groups for flow-like experiences during preferred activities, although gender differences were significant (p < .001). Individuals in the ≥4 ACEs group endorsed more intense creative experiences compared to the no-ACE and 1–3 ACEs groups (p = .006, η2 = .048); however, in the third MANCOVA they had heightened anxiety, internalized shame, dissociative processing, emotion-oriented coping, and cumulative trauma (p < .001, η2 = .132). There were no group differences for task-oriented and avoidant-oriented coping, a finding that highlights the ability of active individuals to engage in effective coping strategies under stressful situations.ConclusionRegardless of past childhood adversity history, this non-clinical high achieving sample was able to engage in a range of coping strategies under stress.  相似文献

Drawing from status quo bias theory and coping theory, this study examines how the inertial use of incumbent web payment (WP) services influences users’ intention to use new mobile payment (MP) services. By conducting an online survey (n = 491), this study reveals that inertia demonstrates triple effects on intention to use MP services: direct, bias, and moderating. The direct effect suggests that inertia directly decreases intention to use MP. The bias effect means that inertia leads to biased assessment of perceived value and perceived threat, thereby decreasing intention to use MP. The moderating effect denotes that inertia strengths the relationship between perceived controllability and intention to use MP. We expect that these findings can provide noteworthy insights for the intervention and prevention of inertia in the web-mobile payment transition context.  相似文献

This study aimed at investigating differential effects between group counselling and group guidance in conducting a ‘Coping with Stress Training Program’ for 24 Turkish university students. The dependent variables were coping with stress, irrational beliefs and optimism. A 3 × 2 design (treatment sequence by repeated measures) was applied. As a result of the treatment no significant difference was observed between the two experimental groups in any of the variables tested in the study; however, both experimental groups differed significantly from a control group in respect to coping with stress. With regard to the within-group comparisons, irrational belief tendencies in both experimental groups decreased significantly, while the level of optimism of the counselling group and the problem-focused stress coping tendencies of the guidance group increased significantly. Based on the findings, it was considered that the program for developing coping skills for stress might best be implemented in a group guidance format especially in Turkey where there are limited physical resources, a low number of staff to run programs and a high number of students in need of help.  相似文献

对长春市374名老年人进行了问卷研究,结果表明:(1)老年人采取的应付方式从多到少依次为淡化、面对、探索、退避和幻想,文化程度低、经济状况较差的老人更多采取退避和幻想;(2)女性、文化程度较低及经济状况较差的老人心理健康水平较低;(3)淡化、退避和幻想普遍能调节老年人的心理健康,面对和探索不影响老年人的心理健康.  相似文献

The big-fish-little-pond effect (BFLPE) refers to the theoretical prediction that equally able students will have lower academic self-concepts in higher-achieving or selective schools or programs than in lower-achieving or less selective schools or programs, largely due to social comparison based on local norms. While negative consequences of being in a more competitive educational setting are highlighted by the BFLPE, the exact nature of the BFLPE has not been closely scrutinized. This article provides a critique of the BFLPE in terms of its conceptualization, methodology, and practical implications. Our main argument is that the BFLPE, while having added to our understanding of the origins of self-concepts, disproportionately emphasizes one aspect of social comparison to the exclusion of many other intervening factors. In light of our critique, we suggest a broader conception of social comparison effects on academic self-concept that emphasizes a more active role of individuals in regulating their social cognition and motivation, as well as a more distinct effect of social-contextual influences. We also suggest alternative research designs that would incorporate contextual, developmental, and individual differences as potential moderators or mediators of the BFLPE.

This research project focused upon an inconsistency in the structure of a context specific instrument measuring communication apprehension in dating relationships. A parsimonious, single‐factor, solution for Dating Partner Communication Apprehension (DPCA) emerged from the analysis. Principle component analysis produced a 13‐item solution that maintains high reliability and validity. As hypothesized, validity checks indicated that the DPCA unidimensional model was moderately and significantly correlated with dyadic communication apprehension, interpersonal solidarity, interpersonal communication satisfaction, and a series of relational perceptions in the dating context. A variety of potential applications and explorations of communication apprehension within dating relationships are discussed.  相似文献
