小议汉字的作用

汉字是记录汉民族语言的书写符号系统,是我们中华民族的精神象征。如果没有汉字就不会有光辉灿烂的中国古代文明,可以说汉字是中华文明之母。汉字的作用主要可以从历史和现实两个方面来说：在历史上,汉字是我们中华民族传统文化的载体,它蕴含着中华民族丰富的社会文化心理,在中国历史上起了极大的团结作用;现实中,汉字能不断适应中国历史发展的要求,能适应信息化,并且在汉文化圈中发挥着特殊作用。同时,随着汉语在全球走红,汉字在对外汉语教学中也发挥着不可代替的作用。     

论文典外宣英译中的文化接近性

文学典故是中国文化的精髓与凝炼,它们在对外宣传材料中的翻译直接影响着中国文化对世界的渗透力。本文通过对文化接近理论的分析,探讨了文典英译时在语用、文化资本和文化价值三个方面可利用的文化接近,同时给出了相关例证,旨在通过文化接近帮助消除跨文化交际中的文化障碍,使得外宣材料的文典翻译更加自然有效。     

从谜米理论看文化的选择性与外语教学

谜米理论是一个关于文化传递的理论,在对于语言与文化关系的论述中,该理论提出了一系列独特的见解,其中文化的选择性便是一个很重要的观点。本文分别就该观点的两个方面,即文化对于语言的选择以及人们对于外来文化的选择吸收,进行了详细的论述;在该观点的启发下,笔者对中国的外语教学提出了个人的一些看法。     

“Is that paper really due today?”: differences in first-generation and traditional college students’ understandings of faculty expectations

Success in college is not simply a matter of students demonstrating academic ability. In addition, students must master the “college student” role in order to understand instructors’ expectations and apply their academic skills effectively to those expectations. This article uses data from focus groups to examine the fit between university faculty members’ expectations and students’ understanding of those expectations. Parallel discussions among groups of faculty and groups of students highlight important differences regarding issues of time management and specific aspects of coursework. We find definite incongruities between faculty and student perspectives and identify differences between traditional and first-generation college students. We argue that variations in cultural capital, based on parents’ educational experiences, correspond to important differences in each group’s mastery of the student role and, thus, their ability to respond to faculty expectations. The conclusion discusses the theoretical and practical implications of considering role mastery a form of cultural capital.

边缘的“他者”——希腊神话中的女妖形象解读

女妖是希腊神话故事中不可缺少的内容之一,她们是一个介于人与神之间一个特殊的群体,一群与文明相对立的边缘化的他者。试以社会学相关原理为依据,对希腊神话中的女妖进行解读,指出女妖的设置是古希腊时期女性的政治地位在文学上的反映,其目的正在于从文化方面教化女性对男性权威的绝对服从,并给当时社会里试图颠覆男性权威的强悍女性以警示。

Value changes in an era of social transformations: college‐educated Chinese youth

This paper addresses value changes that have occurred to college‐educated youth as China is going through drastic social transformations under Western influences. It explains how socio‐economic and cultural forces interplay within a particular historical and political context in bringing about such notable changes as individualism, materialism and moral crisis. Through exploring young people's perceptions of the relative status of China versus the West, represented by the USA, the paper reveals a collective inferiority complex and resulting dislocation of cultural identities, manifested as national nihilism and a magnified, empty patriotism. Conclusions are drawn on the importance of educating the younger generations with a sound knowledge of Chinese history, culture and traditional values, and a sensible perspective as regards Western civilization.
