In this paper we model the pathways commonly traversed as user innovations are transformed into commercial products. First, one or more users recognize a new set of design possibilities and begin to innovate. They then join into communities, motivated by the increased efficiency of collective innovation. User-manufacturers then emerge, using high-variable/low-capital cost production methods. Finally, as user innovation slows, the market stabilizes enough for high-capital, low-variable cost manufacturing to enter. We test the model against the history of the rodeo kayak industry and find it supported. We discuss implications for “dominant design” theory and for innovation practice. 相似文献

This study identifies health beliefs influencing Hispanic college men's human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine uptake decision making processes. Hispanic college men were interviewed about their HPV vaccine knowledge, and information seeking behaviors. Overall, participants did not view HPV infection or vaccination as an immediate concern or priority; belief that it was a virus that only affected women, and a sense of invulnerability informed their positions. Despite these issues, most men were willing to consider getting the HPV vaccine if they received more education from health care providers, and cost concerns were addressed. These findings pointed to gaps in our understandings of Hispanic college men's HPV vaccination beliefs and provided insight into the importance of integrating this population's unique beliefs into campus health providers efforts aimed at increasing vaccination rates. 相似文献

本文利用100连续样带上每个样方中土壤因子及地上植物的总盖度及生物量数值,根据样方方差分析方法(BQV,TTLQV,PQV),计算不同区组面积上各个值的方差。发现调查样带上的植被存在看半径6—7m左右的聚集分布格局规模,同时,土壤因子pH、碱化度、土壤含水量也存在着半径6~7m左右的聚集分布格局规模,土壤有机质存在着半径8m左右的聚集分布格局规模,说明,地上植物群落的格局规模与土壤因子的格局规模是相近的,这对植被格局成因分析提供了一个有力的证据 相似文献

Using a communities-of-practice framework, this 2-year qualitative study centered on five elementary teachers the year following their participation in the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification process. Focused on teachers’ appropriation of the Board's standards and portfolio as conceptual tools related to literacy instruction, the study suggests that the National Board process does provide a learning opportunity for teachers and can positively impact teachers’ practice over time. However, personal and institutional constraints influence the degree to which teachers are able to implement instruction aligned with National Board standards. 相似文献

A study of Mexican immigrant mothers of young children in the AVANCE-Dallas early childhood intervention program demonstrates
that low-educational parents often exhibit ambitious attitudes about educational achievement for their children. Though they
lack an extensive academic background, which places their children at risk for low education, their positive attitude manifested
in daily pro-educational behaviors overcomes their low education level because they both motivate their children to pursue
academic success and participate in their children’s learning. The best way to capitalize on immigrant parents’ educational
drive for their children is to partner with them—either through an intervention program or through early childhood educators’
interaction with parents—by showing them how their participation in their children’s learning through concrete activities
(such as regular mother–child conversation, daily reading, and playtime activities that teach developmental skills) may increase

Abstract This article contributes to the study of decision-making processes both at a farm systems level and at the level of agricultural research in partnership with commercial farms. It also highlights the way in which adoption and adaptation of innovation occurs in a socially rich context with information, group formation and connectivity converging to create a complex learning environment. Design/methodology/approach. The methodology used in this research centres on the Communities of Practice (CoP) theoretical framework augmented by Gramsci's notion of Intellectual Communities and discursive analysis. A dairy farming systems project operating in Australia (3030 Project) provided the context for our study. Findings. The group structures within the 3030 Project constitute CoP in which innovation is evolved, adopted and adapted. This process involves socially negotiated learning which is both processual and highly contextual. Discursive dialects are formed and interact within these CoP at the level of decision-making and can be analysed in context to further our understanding of the way in which farmers participate in learning opportunities and negotiate innovation. Practical implications. This theoretical framework can be used to enhance the learning capabilities of these groups by developing a better understanding of how discourse is used to successfully transfer knowledge effectively and with authority. Originality/value. The 3030 Project provided a unique opportunity for a comparative analysis of on-farm and research-based decision-making processes in a ‘real time’ situation from a multi-scale perspective. 相似文献
