跨文化交际教学的现状与出路

目前我国涉外人员的跨化交际知识十分匮乏，而化教学还未受到应有的重视。要普及跨化交际知识不能靠普遍开设跨化交际课程，而要走化教学与语言教学相结合的道路。

随着国际间的交流日益频繁,跨文化交际成为当今时代的突出特征。由于文化背景的不同,人们在跨文化交际过程中难免会遇到一些障碍,阻碍交际的进程。以中庸思想作为跨文化交际的原则,求同存异,有利于化解不同文化间的冲突,推动跨文化交际的顺利进行。

Theorizing Difference in Intercultural Communication: A Critical Dialogic Perspective

Difference between cultures is one of the foci of cross-cultural and intercultural communication research. Difference is often viewed as a problematic source of misunderstanding and conflict. Dialogic scholarship is extensive in interpersonal, organizational, and public communication. However, in the field of intercultural communication, the dialogic approach has not yet been explicitly explored. Based on the dialogic theories of Buber, Levinas, and Bakhtin, this paper argues that to be intercultural is to be dialogic, to celebrate difference, otherness, and plurality. This paper further proposes a critical dialogic approach to understanding difference in intercultural communication, which values both the grand narratives about intercultural power relations and the local meanings of situated intercultural interaction and competing discourses.     

Living Together in European Intercultural Schools: the case of the Catalan school system (Spain)

There are practical difficulties in making intercultural education a substantial element of inclusion in both primary and compulsory secondary education in Europe. The Spanish education system and, in particular, the Catalan education system, have developed a series of strategies in response to the new multicultural complexity encountered in both the classroom and society as a whole. In this study, several inclusive attempts of the Catalan education system will be discussed. As a consequence of their analysis, educational models that are compatible with the framework of inclusive education will be presented as an effective means of promoting greater social integration and a peaceful coexistence in the school context.     

International students’ perspectives of a diverse class on multiculturalism

Studying in a foreign country, where one becomes a cultural outsider and where one lacks knowledge of and access to dominant cultural practices, can be a perfect context for challenging students’ values, beliefs, and attitudes, particularly when these experiences are coupled with coursework on diversity. This study explored international students’ perspectives of a diverse class on multiculturalism. Data from 45 students’ reflective journals, course evaluation, and focus group interviews were analysed to identify students’ significant learning experiences. The study provides support for the value of diverse cultural experiences in developing intercultural competence. In addition, the diversity among students contributed to their growing understanding of cultural diversity. The research findings contribute to the development of teacher preparation and enhancement of curricula and practice.
