Affection Deprivation in Romantic Relationships

The current study examined the role of affection deprivation, the need for greater affection than an individual is currently receiving, in the context of romantic relationships. Using affection exchange theory, the authors hypothesized several testable relationships between affection deprivation and relational outcomes (relational satisfaction, closeness, and commitment). The study also examined the possible moderating roles of relational maximization and relational uncertainty. Overall, the results supported the predictions, with affection deprivation significantly related to satisfaction and closeness. Relational maximization moderated the significant relationships between deprivation and relational satisfaction and commitment. Relational uncertainty moderated the significant relationships between deprivation and closeness and commitment. Implications and possible directions for future research are discussed.

汤显祖的“至情说”论略

汤显祖是中国古代戏曲史上的著名作家。在其最广为人知的传奇《牡丹亭》中,汤显祖将"情"提到了生而有之的高度,与"理"及"性"相抗,以阐扬自然人性的正当。但贯穿于汤显祖文学思想及戏曲创作中的"至情说",并非对"理"及"性"的完全否定,而是强调"情"、"性"之间度的把控,是明代主流思想由程朱而陆王复又回归程朱的反映。受罗汝芳及达观禅师影响,汤显祖的"情"虽有时混入了庄、禅的成份,但积极入世、醒世、救世始终是其思想观念及现实践履的主要导向。     

基于认知负荷理论的教学媒体设计

首先对认知负荷的概念含义、主要观点和分类做简单扼要的论述。认知负荷理论提出了一些能减少学习者认知负荷,提高学习效率,并对教学媒体设计有指导作用的教学效应:分散注意力效应、双重感官效应、独立交互元素效应、元素交互效应及冗余效应。在阐述这些教学效应的基础上,分别给出它们在教学媒体设计中应用的例子。

中国当代戏剧,从深受西方影响到艺术的自觉,经历了相当一段时间,但艺术自觉之后,要让艺术凭着自身特点赢得市场,更加需要长时间的探索和实验。"MM时代"的戏剧家牟森和孟京辉,有了从诗到戏剧的尝试,让他们的《零档案》和《镜花水月》,具有了诗一样的语言、生动的想象、寥廓的意境、深刻的情思等诗歌审美共性。     

The relationship between student communication motives and information seeking

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between college students’ communication motives (i.e., relational, functional, participatory, excuse making, sycophantic) and their use of information‐seeking strategies (i.e., overt, indirect, third party, testing, observing). Participants were 149 students enrolled in an introductory communication course at a Mid‐Atlantic university. Results indicated that (a) students who communicate for the sycophantic, relational, and participatory motives use the indirect and observing information‐seeking strategies and (b) students who communicate for the functional communication motive use the overt information‐seeking strategy, but do not use the testing information‐seeking strategy. Future research should examine whether college students use information‐seeking strategies with their classmates and the impact of the use of these strategies on their learning experience.     

Message defensiveness,efficacy, and health‐related behavioral intentions

This study examined the effects of (response and self) efficacy on defensive message processing and behavioral intentions. Hypothesized predictions were generated from the extended parallel process model (Witte, 1992). The results suggest that people with low self‐efficacy will engage in greater defensive message processing in the form of counter‐arguing. In addition, people with low response and self‐efficacy will have lower behavioral intentions than people with high efficacy. Implications and limitations are discussed.     

The Attributes of Relational Maximizers

Using Schwartz’s (2000) conceptualization of decision maximization, we sought to understand how an individual’s propensity to maximize in relationships factored into personal, relational, and communication outcomes. In Study 1, 343 participants currently involved in romantic relationships completed measures of relational maximization along with measures of regret, life satisfaction, closeness, trust, relational satisfaction, and relational uncertainty. In Study 2, 272 participants were surveyed about their tendency to maximize in relationships along with affectionate communication and relational maintenance behaviors. Results from both studies revealed that the tendency to maximize in relationships was negatively correlated with relational outcomes (closeness, trust, satisfaction) and communication outcomes (affection and some relational maintenance behaviors). Furthermore, relational maximization was positively related to regret and relational uncertainty.
