Canada and the Pan-American Games

Abstract

Canadians have been involved in every edition of the Pan-American Games since they were inaugurated in Buenos Aires in 1951. That participation has provided thousands of Canadian athletes, coaches, and officials memorable international experiences. But the focus of Canadian involvement with the Pan-Ams has been the staging of games as a strategy for city building, city branding, and infrastructural investment. This paper examines the Pan-American Games of Winnipeg in 1967 and 1999 and Toronto 2015 as exemplars of that strategy. It argues that with the successes of those games, major games hosting has become virtually an article of faith of Canadian sport policy.

为提升网络学术期刊的传播能力,提高网络学术期刊的发行质量,针对网络学术期刊的特点,围绕其发行与传播环境,并结合对2015年我国SCI收录期刊的实证分析,提出提升网络学术期刊传播能力的对策。网络学术期刊传播能力的提升,需要编辑树立互联网思维,需要建立健全多渠道的发行途径,重视标识符的使用以及重视挖掘语义出版等新出版模式。学术期刊的发展应顺应时代潮流,新元素和新出版模式的使用将成为网络学术期刊发展的必然趋势。

传统出版的困境并不意味着它的消亡,它将结合互联网出版的优势以双向融合的方式实现出版业的重构。在互联网技术的支持下,由线上到线下的大规模定制出版有着不可忽视的优势。同时,也实现了专业生产与大众生产的结合,公信力与生产力的结合。总之,互联网出版与传统出版已经呈现融合发展的趋势,“互联网+出版”才是出版行业的出路。     

Pepper Spray Cop and the American Dream: Using Synecdoche and Metaphor to Unlock Internet Memes’ Visual Political Rhetoric

Social media are increasingly important in protest movements for communication and organization. As such, scholars should consider these ephemeral messages as a tool for understanding such movements’ rhetoric. This article draws on Kjeldsen’s method for the critique of visual political rhetoric and adds consideration of intertextuality, synecdoche, and metaphor to demonstrate a method for the rhetorical analysis and a critique of Internet memes as visual, political rhetoric. The Pepper Spray Cop meme arising from Occupy Wall Street is presented as a case-study example. The article considers the centrality of the intertextual nature of memes as a unique form of visual rhetoric in activist contexts and contributes to the literature on user-generated and activist rhetoric.

"新互联网"技术的兴起和蓬勃发展,为高校网络工程专业人才培养模式带来了新的挑战和契机。然而,由于高校人才培养体系不完善、师资投入不足、实验教学环节薄弱等原因,造成学生专业优势不突出、实践创造能力薄弱。本文分析了原有网络工程专业人才培养模式,提出完善人才培养体系、优化师资结构、加强校企合作和注重实践教学等一系列措施来提高学生专业竞争力,探索出一条适应"新互联网"时代下面向实用型专业人才培养的新模式。

中学生使用网络,迷恋网络,主要受兴趣、好奇心、社会交往、自我实现以及外在等因素的驱使.通过对迷恋者培养积极兴趣创造成功体验、建立正确的自我评价认知范式、集体治疗及网络厌恶的干预手段,使他们正确使用网络而不至于成瘾.

随着计算机网络的飞速发展,网络对当代社会的影响在日益加强。大学生作为一个特殊的群体在学习方式、身心发展、思想道德修养等方面受到网络的影响也在日益加强。并且这些影响具有复杂性、变化的复合性以及问题的隐蔽性等特点。本文主要分析阐述了网络对当代大学生身心发展的消极因素。希望对广大青年学生正确客观地对待网络有所裨益。

高校是网络诞生地，又是网络建设和发展最快的领域，生活在网络信息环境中的大学生，思想道德，行为方式等深受影响，这种影响既有正面的，也有负面的，因此，重视对大学生网上的道德教育，就成了高校思想政治工作不容忽视的一个问题。     

Provider documentation of patient education: a lean investigation

Purpose

The study evaluates how providers give patient education materials and identifies improvements to comply with Meaningful Use (MU) requirements.

Methods

Thirty-eight patient-provider interactions in two health care outpatient clinics were observed.

Results

Providers do not uniformly know MU patient education requirements. Providers have individual preferences and find gaps in what is available. Accessing and documenting patient education varies among providers. Embedded electronic health record (EHR) materials, while available, have technical access barriers.

Conclusions

Providers'' EHR skills and knowledge levels contribute to non-standardized patient education delivery.
