Implementation of learning outcomes in Universities has not been seamless – their alignment with assessments requires faculty to specify learning outcomes and show transparent evaluation of this alignment. Difficulties arise transitioning from grading within a range of pre-existing assessment formats to grading common learning outcomes across those different formats. Experiencing this, we performed a quantitative evaluation of students completing an academic literacy course. We aimed to see if student achievement was determined by assessment format or by learning outcomes, and then to identify whether achievement of a learning outcome was equivalent across assessment formats. A twostep cluster analysis identified three clusters of students: high, medium, and low achievers. Strongest predictors of cluster-membership were learning outcomes assessed in the written essay, however scores for each learning outcome when assessed across assessment formats correlated poorly. Faculty should ensure consistent standards in learning outcomes achievement when assessed across different formats, or clearly separate learning outcomes. 相似文献

conducted on how students’ understanding of the rigorous definition of limit is influenced by the images of limit that the
students have constructed through their previous learning. This study explored how calculus students’ images of the limit
of a sequence influence their understanding of definitions of the limit of a sequence. In a series of task-based interviews,
students evaluated the propriety of statements describing the convergence of sequences through a specially designed hands-on
activity, called the ɛ–strip activity. This paper illustrates how these students’ understanding of definitions of the limit of a sequence was influenced
by their images of limits as asymptotes, cluster points, or true limit points. The implications of this study for teaching

Researchers are often interested in whether the effects of an intervention differ conditional on individual- or group-moderator variables such as children's characteristics (e.g., gender), teacher's background (e.g., years of teaching), and school's characteristics (e.g., urbanity); that is, the researchers seek to examine for whom and under what circumstances an intervention works. Furthermore, the researchers are interested in understanding and interpreting variability in treatment effects through moderation analysis as an approach to exploring the sources of the treatment effect variability. This study develops formulas for power analyses to detect the moderator effects in designing three-level cluster randomized trials (CRTs). We develop the statistical formulas for calculating statistical power, minimum detectable effect size difference, and 95% confidence intervals for cluster or cross-level moderation, nonrandomly varying or random slopes, binary or continuous moderators, and designs with or without covariates.
