新时期法律类高职院校英语课程建设思考——以法律专业为例

新时期法律类高职英语课程的改革已经迫在眉睫.以新的模式进行课程建设须立足于未来岗位需求和高职实际,合理进行课程设置,处理好公共英语与法律英语在高职英语课程中的合理衔接,提供差异化的课程设计方案,务实选择教学内容、教学方法以及合理配备和培养高职法律英语课的师资力量.     

Impact of an Early Reading First program on the language and literacy achievement of children from diverse language backgrounds

This study used an age-cutoff regression discontinuity design to examine the impact of a well-resourced Early Reading First prekindergarten program designed to foster the language and literacy development of 4-year-old children from low-income homes. A special challenge for the application of the language-rich curriculum and professional development package implemented in this study was the presence of a large proportion of ELL children in essentially English-speaking classrooms. We, therefore, sought to determine whether the program was effective for improving English language and literacy outcomes for English-language learners as well as native English speakers. There were large and significant differences between treatment and control groups on literacy outcomes for all students. On the literacy tasks, ELL students in the treatment groups performed nearly as well or better than non-ELL students at the beginning of kindergarten, and reached national norms on standardized tests. There were also significant program impacts on some language outcomes for all students. ELL students who received the intervention significantly outperformed ELL students in the control groups on English receptive and expressive vocabulary. On the more complex oral comprehension skills, preschool did not have a significant impact for ELL students. Intervention effects on receptive vocabulary and oral comprehension for native speakers were found only for the third cohort and were not found for expressive vocabulary. These results provide evidence that, given material supports, coaching, professional development, and the use of a language and literacy-focused curriculum, prekindergarten classrooms can enable low-SES children from diverse language backgrounds to enter kindergarten with literacy skills at or near national norms and can significantly impact some language skills. While non-native speakers of English continued to score lower on language measures than their native-speaking peers, results show that 1 year of preschool can put all children on a positive trajectory for long-term success in school.     

An action research study designed to implement student negotiation to improve speaking classroom practice in Turkey

This paper reports the second stage of an action research study designed to improve the effectiveness of speaking classes through negotiating the lesson contents with students. The data were collected through interviews, questionnaires and observations as a way of eliciting students’ views. The research, conducted in an English language teaching department at a university in Turkey, comprised eight weekly-based interventions that involved planning, action, observation, and reflection, in which students were given a voice and classroom activities were designed accordingly. Student negotiation allowed for the identification of both structural and affective factors influencing the quality of speaking classes. The teacher’s roles in activities, the number of students in group work activities, the level of control in speaking activities, and the role of input were found to be issues worth considering in designing speaking classes. Issues such as finding the activity ‘interesting’ and ‘useful’, ‘feeling comfortable’ and ‘being competitive’ also influenced the effectiveness of activities. Involving students in this action research study promoted positive attitudes towards classes since students reported feeling valued and important.     

Proposal for a National Library Plan for Iran

Abstract

This study surveyed Government school libraries in Benue State before the creation of Kogi State from Benue. The study was carried out using 100 non-pretested questionnaire forms of which only 70 were returned with sufficient information for analysis and generalization.

The study focused on how over 60 government school libraries, scattered over a large geographical area with a poor road network and few funds, are centrally administered. Further, the study covered the extent of co-operation between school libraries and their relationship to the central administration at the Ministry of Education and other library authorities elsewhere. The acquisition policy, staffing, processing, distribution and inspection, as well as operational standards are discussed and suggestions for improvement are supplied. Possible areas for further research relating to the study are raised in conclusion.     

《中国航空学报》(英文版)国际化道路初探

分析《中国航空学报》(英文版)在国际化进程方面存在的问题,即文章语言水平不高、发表周期过长导致优秀稿件流失、出版平台受众面有限.提出5方面对策:一是建立一流的国际编委队伍;二是在国际平台采用优先数字出版方式;三是采用开放存取的出版模式;四是编校流程国际化;五是加强语言质量控制.     

民国时期中文报纸的英文学术研究——对一个新兴领域的初步观察

本文概述了最近几十年英文论著中关于中国民国时期报纸研究的情况,梳理了近期包括文学研究者、历史学家在内的大量重要研究成果,分析了这个领域的现有研究主题,如民国报纸与民主主义、上海的民国报纸、民国报纸与中国新闻业的职业化、跨国视角下的民国报纸等。论文还提出了未来研究民国时期报纸的几个亟待解决的问题。     

拓展国际稿源提高国外论文比——以《国际肝胆胰疾病杂志》(英文版)为例

英文期刊要国际化,要有国外来稿,也是提高英文期刊学术质量和影响力的关键.作者结合<国际肝胆胰疾病杂志>(英文版)近几年增强国外组稿的体会,提出拓展国际稿源,提高国外论文比的一些举措.     

The contradictory effect of the ‘global’ on the ‘local’: Japanese behaviour and attitudes towards English use in local contexts

This paper aims to establish that globalised social and linguistic changes have a more complicated impact on local behaviours and attitudes than is believed. Based on statistical analysis of nationally representative surveys in Japan, the paper presents evidence against the following two propositions: (1) globalisation increases local demand for English use and (2) local enthusiasm for English-education reforms is a direct outcome of globalisation. The findings of the study suggest a significant disconnect between these discourses and reality. Therefore, this paper discusses the power of discourse in constructing images of globalisation and the global spread of English.

分析4种高影响因子期刊学科排位、国际论文比和国际引用率。结果表明:《Cell Res》和《Asian J Androl》为高影响力期刊;《Acta Pharmacol Sin》的国际影响力较好;《Acta GeolSin-Engl》的国际影响力一般。认为我国英文版科技期刊确立国际化发展目标、严格把好审稿关、刊登高质量的稿件、扩大期刊宣传,是提高期刊影响力的关键措施。
