The relationship between listening styles and conversational sensitivity

This study examines the relationship between the listening styles people tend to employ habitually and related levels of conversational sensitivity. Conversational sensitivity deals with the extent to which people enjoy listening in social interaction, can identify hidden meaning in conversations, and generally are highly aware of implicit messages that may be gained from conversations. One way in which conversational sensitivity might be apparent is in the listening styles which people rely on habitually. Conversationally sensitive receivers may favor one or two listening styles over others. The results indicate a positive relationship between the People listening style and conversational sensitivity, as well as weaker positive relationships between the Content and Action styles and sensitivity. Conversationally sensitive people are most likely to employ the People listening style. The results illustrate the conversational advantages of employing a People listening style.     

Understanding the overvaluation of facial trustworthiness in Airbnb host images

Renting a property via a peer-to-peer platform involves a variety of risks. Humans inherently, subconsciously use facial cues as important shortcuts in making assessments about other persons. On property sharing platforms, such as Airbnb, facial cues can be used in a similar fashion alongside reputational information. According to Dangerous Decisions Theory (DDT), intuitive evaluations of trustworthiness based on faces can bias subsequent assessment of an individual, requiring further information sources to make a more balanced assessment. In this study we apply DDT to demonstrate that evaluations based on perceived facial trustworthiness are overvalued; when combined with reputational measures, such as ‘super host’ status, such assessments are diminished. The study is based on deep learning to classify host faces for a large data set of online accommodation (n = 78,386). The research demonstrates that facial trust cues in online platforms should be treated with caution and must be combined with more objective measures of reputation in order to reduce the effects of overvaluation. The paper concludes with implications for practice and future research.

Teacher e-mail message strategies and students' willingness to communicate online

In light of the prevalent use of e-mail between teachers and students, researchers have highlighted the need to assess its uses and effects. Relying on the research and thinking of teacher immediacy and extra-class communication, we developed a scale that measures those e-mail message strategies that influence students' willingness to communicate online with their teachers. Next, we isolated those reasons that students use e-mail to interact with their teachers: (1) to clarify course material and procedures, (2) as a means of efficient communication, and (3) for personal/social reasons. Finally, we examined student characteristics such as gender and ethnicity, and history of e-mail use that may (or may not) influence their attitudes toward e-mail exchanges with teachers.     

《国家学生体质健康标准》测试下大学生体质健康现状及其影响因素分析

依据《国家体质健康标准》对南开大学在校10089名本科生进行了体质健康标准测试。调查结果显示:南开大学学生身高标准体重主要表现为正常体重人群比例较低,超重、肥胖学生人数较多,比例较大,身体形态匀程度较差。心血管系统功能和肺功能总体情况良好,且女生的总体状况略高于男生,说明男生的心血管系统的功能、肺通气总量对3min运动定量负荷承受能力和女生相比稍差一些。女生柔韧素质良好,男生上肢肌肉力量素质较高,全校学生下肢肌肉爆发力素质较高,但基本处于中等水平,且女生表现比起男生相对较好,这提示在今后的体育教学和学生自身的体育锻炼中应加强有氧运动健身,提升耐力素质,降低身体成分中脂肪含量,同时应多加强科学健身与膳食营养补充等知识讲授,发挥体育教育的健康教育功能,并结合体质健康标准测试的监测,从而达到全面促进学生健康的目的。

中国《文心雕龙》资料中心的建立与运作,实际上是公共图书馆向专业图书馆领域的延深与拓展,其未来的发展与走向可以遵循这一思路予以深入思考。在网络时代,中国《文心雕龙》资料中心应当加强馆藏的专门化,实现服务的专业化,并在网络一体化的知识环境中为专业图书馆的统合贡献自身的力量。     

“一带一路”框架下深化闽台电子商务合作研究

后ECFA时代,在《海峡两岸服务贸易协议》已经签署但尚未生效实施的背景下,闽台电子商务合作先行先试的政策新优势日益凸显,快速发展的比较优势逐渐显现,但是也面临着省域间对台合作的激烈竞争和福建省电子商务影响力及发展指数偏低的挑战。与ECFA框架并行不悖,在“一带一路”总体新框架下,积极推进闽台电子商务合作具有重要的战略意义,深化和拓展闽台电子商务合作需要进一步推动产业制度合作、推进行业人才培育和突破商业模式创新。     

基于PCA人脸识别的智能防盗报警系统的设计与实现

针对我国智能安防行业中普遍使用指纹识别系统,而传统的人脸识别系统使用范围小、售价高、普及率低的现状,设计了一种基于PCA人脸识别的智能防盗报警系统。该系统采用PCA算法进行人脸特征降维,识别后设置警报阀值,采用GSM通信实现智能防盗报警功能。通过硬件与软件的设计安装与调试,以及系统整体的测试调试,该系统能有效识别人脸,并在系统出发警报时通过GSM短信进行实时通信报警。
