The effects of gender and consequence upon perceptions of deceivers

This study examines the impact of gender combinations and consequences of deceptive acts upon perceptions held by uninvolved third party observers. Perceptions examined in this initial study were observer attitudes toward a specific act of deception and the deceiver's credibility and personal qualities. Results indicate the existence of both a gender effect and a consequence effect. Under certain conditions, females appear to be more sensitive to relational deception than males and report more negative attitudes and perceptions of the deceiver's character, competence, and sociability. The consequence for the target impacted both observer attitude toward the specific act of deception and perceptions of deceiver credibility. Paradigmatic research should be designed to yield additional information.     

Communication That Changes Lives: Social Support Within an Online Health Community for ALS

Impaired communication due to a disabling illness can lead to reduced participation in community life. Online health communities can provide a substitute community for the purpose of social support and information sharing. This study examines communication between participants in an online community for patients and carers affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a degenerative neurological disease affecting communication and mobility. The study finds community members engaged in a dynamic interchange of information and social support. The results contribute to understanding of communication and social support needs of people with high levels of disability.     

阜阳地方志中的倪嗣冲形象初探

倪嗣冲是清末民初一位重要的历史人物,在不同时期的阜阳地方志中描绘的倪嗣冲形象既有相同的一面,又有不同的地方。民国时期阜阳地方志描绘的倪嗣冲形象为:一是镇压革命的清廷走卒;二是革命党人的屠杀和迫害者;三是阜阳人民痛恨的独裁者。20世纪90年代的地方志描绘的倪嗣冲形象除以上三点外,还有以下四点:一是军阀;二是投机政客;三是投资富商;四是大地主。     

“秦七黄九”词创作差异略论

秦观与黄庭坚几乎生活于同一时代,有着极其相似的人生经历,但是相同的背后有着诸多的不同。因人生态度与性格的差异,二者在词作中展现出不同的主体形象,一为伤心人,另为抗争者。同时,秦观以真景物与真感情在词中营造出委婉含蓄的境界,展现出以婉为雅的风格;相反黄庭坚直抒胸臆表达出自然明快的乐观情怀,体现出以俗为拙的风格。     

《论语》中的隐士形蒙

作为中国文学史上第一部比较集中、细致地刻画隐士形象的作品,《论语》立足于当时的时代背景,具体生动地将隐士群体的行为方式与精神风貌呈现出来;又以具体的细节,呈现出隐士群体中的不同性格特质。《论语》通过符号式、情景式和论说式等展现方式,构建起《论语》异彩纷呈的隐士世界,显示了早期儒家对隐士的情感态度,对后世隐逸文学产生了深远影响。

Cultural Variations in the Reasons People Provide Avoidance Support

This study explores variations in the reasons people engage in avoidance as a support strategy across the two cultures of the United States and China. An avoidance-support belief scale was developed. Exploratory factor analysis of responses from 231 Americans and 219 Chinese identified three dimensions of the scale: (1) protecting the support seeker from harm by avoiding, (2) maintaining a positive mood by avoiding, and (3) spiritual/philosophical reasons for avoiding. Follow-up analyses revealed that Chinese scored significantly and substantially higher than Americans for all three avoidance support dimensions. Implications and future research directions are discussed.     

Cultural Similarities and Differences in Seeking Social Support as a Means of Coping: A Comparison of European Americans and Chinese and an Evaluation of the Mediating Effects of Self-Construal

Abstract

Two studies examined similarities and differences in how European Americans and Chinese view seeking social support as a strategy for coping with an upset. Participants (407 European Americans and 595 Chinese) completed instruments assessing the appropriateness of seeking social support and several self-reliant coping strategies (problem-solving, emotion management, avoidance) when confronting upsets. Both studies detected cultural and sex differences in support seeking. However, there were also substantial similarities in coping responses. Americans viewed seeking support as a more appropriate coping strategy than did Chinese. However, both Americans and Chinese viewed seeking support as more appropriate than the solitary coping strategies of avoidance and emotion management. Culture moderated sex differences in support seeking; American women viewed seeking social and emotional support as more appropriate than American men, whereas few sex differences were evident among the Chinese samples. Individual differences in interdependent and independent self-construals partially mediated cultural and sex differences in support seeking in Study 2; in addition, culture moderated the mediating effects of self-construal, with self-construal mediating sex differences among Americans but not among Chinese. The cultural and sex differences in self-construals, however, did not conform to theoretical expectations. Moreover, cultural and sex differences in self-construals were quite small in magnitude.     

基于VC6．0的24位真彩色图像读取与显示

在图像处理软件的设计中正确认识图像文件的结构至关重要。对BMP图像的文件结构进行了系统介绍。通过一个24位真彩色图像的实例,分析了真彩色图像的基本结构,给出了一种在VC6．0环境下读取与显示24位真彩色图像的方法。     

基于机器视觉的异型滤嘴检测系统设计

针对现有检测设备对滤嘴上带有凹陷图案的异型烟无法准确检测的缺陷,本文设计了一种基于机器视觉的异型烟检测系统。该系统通过工业相机对异型烟滤嘴侧进行图像采集,运用图像处理技术对图像数据进行分析,并向控制系统发出剔除信号,在相应位置将不合格烟包剔除。该系统灵敏度高,交互性强,满足异型烟检测的需要。
