The focus of this paper is access problems distance students encounter when required to use the Internet for their studies, and how such problems influence the students’ ability to gain access to higher education. Empirically, the paper is informed by a qualitative case study of a Master’s programme in public administration offered to a group of students in a relatively remote area of Indonesia. It shows how access problems certainly become a challenge for such students, not only because of the absence of technology but also because of social constraints related to the presence of technology. However, as there are often no proper alternatives, new technology may well be considered a step forwards for such students, even if the new technology to some extent creates serious problems.  相似文献

Development rhetoric sometimes appears to take little account of the contingencies of relationships, activities and events, as if human interaction and understanding is being written out of the process. At the same time, practices such as volunteering, which foreground the human subjects involved in development, are often ignored by development professionals, despite (or perhaps because of) the high proportion of development agency staff who are themselves former volunteers. In this paper, a framework is developed which foregrounds this interactive and human dimension, illuminating its significance more clearly in the development process. This way of looking at development processes is the result of a four‐year field‐based study of volunteer teachers, hospital staff and development workers from the global North working with colleagues in Indonesian schools, hospitals and non‐government organizations. Working and interacting together is seen to involve participants in an active and often conflictual learning process. Through three typical stages (awareness of contradiction, transgression and negotiation), volunteers and their colleagues learn about the social boundaries in the context in which they participate, and about how they and other participants are themselves positioned in relation to these boundaries. The argument proposed here is that opportunities for such contextualized and emergent learning is essential if participants in development are to engage in robust and well‐informed collaborative actions in a particular development context.  相似文献

Global Fintech phenomenon is driven by new technological innovations that attempt to unbundle and deconstruct conventional business models in the financial services sector. Existing research on platforms focus on platform leadership, governance, generativity and modularity, as well as their impact on agility and innovation. However, there are limited empirical studies, to explore the role of platform operators in providing scalable financial service delivery to a broader population. This study aims to enhance the understanding of an emerging Fintech landscape in Indonesia which is characterized by heterogeneous, dynamic and evolving network of organizations and the innovative mechanisms by which the scalability of financial services could be enhanced. Our study suggests that the mechanisms of platformization, decentralization, localization and democratization by Fintech platform operators positively impact the scalability of financial service delivery. This study has significant implications for policy makers especially in emerging markets who are seeking to scale, facilitate and govern the Fintech revolution, and for Fintech practitioners in the design of technology-enabled delivery of financial services.  相似文献

在全球自然环境不断恶劣以及人口急剧膨胀的背景下,自然灾害和人为灾害发生的频率越来越大,世界各国被迫进入灾害频发的风险性社会。印尼政府高度重视灾难教育,2010年制定了一项“减少灾害风险”的国家战略,构建了颇具特色的灾难教育体系。该国的灾难教育确立了以提升学生灾难素养为宗旨的目标,兼顾知识性目标、技能性目标以及情感态度性目标;选取海啸、洪水、地震、滑坡、火灾等灾害为主要教学内容,以螺旋式分模块、分学段地组织教学内容;借助学科课程渗透、专门课程、“自我发展项目”等多样化的途径实施灾难教育;着力开发“境域化”与“多样化”的灾难教育资源。这对于我国灾难教育目标的设置、内容的选择与编排、实施模式的选择以及资源的开发具有一定的借鉴意义。  相似文献
