Let It Flow: The Monopolization of Academic Content Providers and How It Threatens the Democratization of Information

The monopolization of academic journal publishers concentrates power and valuable information into the hands of a few players in the marketplace. It has detrimental effects on how information flows and is accessed. This, in turn, has profound effects on how a nation progresses. Placed in a theoretical framework, utilizing the marketplace of ideas and the economies that coincide, this article takes a look at the history of Elsevier in order to chart this course toward monopolization. It exhibits the effect it has already had on the academic community, while offering two models of Open Access as a much sounder option.

开放大学文学类学科体系构建路径与课程设置研究

学科体系是支撑开放大学发展与建设的基本要素及核心任务。构建开放大学文学类学科体系,在路径选择方面,一是要在学科内延伸,即纵向延伸;二是要在学科间拓展,即横向拓展;在课程设置方面,需要构建多层次的文学类课程结构体系,构建模块化的文学类"课程超市",构建文学类专业群认证体系,形成新的开放大学文学类学科体系和课程体系。

摘要论文介绍了8种数字资源长期保存开源软件：Invemo、DSpace、Epfints、Fedora、Dmpal、i-Tor、MyCoRe和OPUS,阐述了它们的产生和发展过程,并从软件概况、技术规范、知识库及系统管理、系统性能及系统维护5个方面进行了比较分析,概括了这些软件的共同点和不同点,希望能够为各机构选择长期保存软件提供参考,并为国内从事数字图书馆系统设计和开发的同行提供参考。     

国外机构知识库的开放存取政策与权益管理及启示

机构知识库是为了促进学术交流和知识共享而建立的数字化存储系统,全球已经有超过100个国家建立了2400余个不同类型的机构知识库.为了规范操作和便于管理,Dspace、UIR、SHERPA和EUA依据当前的最佳实践制定了各具特色的政策体系,为促进知识共享和学术传播提供了良好的运行环境.     

基于RFID的实验室智能管理系统的设计

本文基于高校中开放性实验室管理的实际要求,设计了基于RFID的实验室智能管理系统。此系统包含学生信息读取与通信模块、控制中心模块和单片机控制模块,实现实验室管理的自动化。实验室智能管理系统的使用很大程度改变了高校实验室管理的现状,真正实现了无人看守、全天候的实验室开放式管理。     

Financial information management for university departments,using open-source software

This paper presents a model to analyse the different outcomes generated by the application of Task-Technology Fit (TTF) theory to economic and financial information management in university departments. This model extends that proposed by Goodhue (1995), in two ways: (i) a key role is played by the manager in designing the technology and in performing the task in question. Both of these aspects can be modified, depending on the evaluation made of a series of characteristics (or dimensions) inherent to the model. (ii) The free dissemination of the source code of the application not only allows the transfer of knowledge, but also creates virtual communities which, through collaborative work and the exchange of experiences, can achieve a better fit of the technology to the task at hand. This model has been introduced in several departments at the University of Granada (Spain), and evaluated in terms of the results obtained at both individual and group levels. This evaluation was conducted by means of in-depth interviews with departmental managers.
