大学学科成长的组织创新模式

大学学科发展的根本动力来自于打破大学学科知识产出的体制制约和限制。好的学术组织制度能够整合学科的各种资源和力量,提高学科的知识生产力水平;反之,不好的学术组织制度会束缚学科知识的产出和发展。组织修补型、创新团队型、学术特区型等学科组织创新模式,是学科组织制度的再设计和创新,对解放学科的知识生产力、激活学术主体性和创造力具有重要的作用。     

“双一流”建设背景下高等教育高质量发展指标研究

创新驱动高质量发展是高等教育发展的未来,也是“双一流”建设质量发展指标研究的关键。在筛选和找出“双一流”建设质量的关键绩效指标(KPI)的基础上,提出了三个步骤的技术路线:一是分析影响因素,且按其重要性进行排列;二是按重要程度不同而精选出关键影响要素和绩效指标;三是更加重视整体研究和相关性研究,促进“以评促建”功能的实现。最后,对其中几个关键绩效指标(KPI)进行较为详细的诠释,包括高等教育毛入学率、生师比、学术声誉调查等。     

The problems of the beginning teacher in the Arab schools in Israel

This article focuses on the problems of beginning teachers in the Arab sector in Israel. The participants were 146 beginning teachers, 5 mentors, and 5 advisors. The research measurements included an open-ended question and a semi-structured interview. Our research revealed many different cultural aspects related to most of the problems of the beginning teachers. These problems are accompanied by difficult conflicts within the beginning Arab teachers who are exposed to western democratic educational models which are partially rejected by traditional Arab culture and society. The expectations of the teacher to become an agent of change in Arab society are not fulfilled in the first year, in which he/she tries to fit into the school, as well as the culture from which she/he comes and to which he returns. The problems which the beginning teachers report are related to didactic and disciplinary knowledge, adjustment to the organizational climate and culture of the school, problems of work overload, and individual differences among the pupils.

Design and the management of multi-institutional research collaborations: Theoretical implications from two case studies

Over the past three decades, U.S. science and technology funding agencies have increasingly supported large-scale, centralized, block grant-based research projects that often span multiple disciplines and institutions. This trend has developed at such a rate that research focused on understanding the management of these new collaborative models has largely not kept pace. We use two case studies of large-scale, multi-disciplinary collaborations to develop an institutional framework that illuminates the relationships among (a) the epistemic norms of the disciplines represented in the collaboration, (b) the organizational structure of these collaborations, and (c) the inter-institutional collaboration success.The results of our case study analysis demonstrate that large-scale, multi-discipline, inter-institutional collaborations need a relatively high level of development in either (1) the epistemic development of the disciplines involved in the collaboration or (2) the organizational structure of the collaboration. We argue that the domain (i.e. epistemic or organizational) that provides the highest level of institutionalization is the one that organizes the “rules” of the collaboration.

I Quit! The Process of Announcing Voluntary Organizational Exit

The exit phase of assimilation is broken down into three sub-processes: preannouncement, announcement/actual exit, and the post-exit period (Jablin, 2001). This article seeks to better understand how individuals make exit announcements. The findings suggest that announcing exit itself is a phased process which links the exit phases Jablin described. Though the formal announcement may be the most prominent, it isn’t necessarily the first or most important.     

Motivations to Disclose Chronic Illness in the Workplace

Managing chronic illness is not just a healthcare issue but is also relevant to workplace communication and relationships. Workers with chronic conditions are faced with the decision of if and how they should disclose the chronic condition to their supervisors and co-workers. These decisions are laden with fears of stigma or other forms of discrimination that are commonly associated with invisible identities. This study used a qualitative questionnaire and thematic analysis techniques to reveal three reasons why workers chose to (or not to) reveal their chronic condition in the work environment: facilitate continued employment, enacting values, and explaining absence or condition. Viewing the results through social exchange theory showed that employees exchange (or do not exchange) personal information for workplace accommodations.     

Economic Sectors as Discursive Resources for Civil Society Collaboration

This study explores the communication processes of civil society collaboration, with particular attention to the ways in which sectoral differences are managed communicatively and how sectoral differences among members are implicated in the processes of collaboration. Findings from a 10-month qualitative investigation of a civil society collaboration of social service providers indicate that sector differences are discursive resources that people draw upon to make sense of uncertainty and frame arguments. Findings also demonstrate how sector differences are managed communicatively through practices of recognition, resistance, translation, and mediation. This study builds on previous scholarship that conceptualizes civil society collaboration as a series of communicative processes and discursive practices (versus economic or structural characteristics), as well as research that advocates a processual approach to the study of organizational collaboration.
