Paradoxes of Press Freedom in Colonial West Africa

This article describes the shifts and contradictions in British approaches to the control of print media in colonial West Africa between the 1920s and 1940s. Well before the Colonial Office's post-war interventions to create an ‘enlightened and educated’ West African citizenry through mass education, decades of independent newspaper production in the region helped to shape independent and critical readerships. For the British, however, an upsurge in African nationalist journalism in the mid-1930s coincided with a perceived Communist infiltration of ‘British West Africa’ to make censorship and surveillance more palatable than before to colonial officials in London, in spite of the new emphasis on public relations.

将钴(Ⅱ)氨配合物的生成置于液体石蜡封闭的除氧溶液中进行，可以得到黄色的[Co(NH3)6]Cl2配合物，避免了把[Co(NH3)6]Cl2、Co(NH3)6]Cl3二混合溶液的颜色当作单纯[Co(NH3)6]Cl2的颜色的错误，表明了钴(Ⅱ、Ⅲ)氨配合物的生成、结构和性质的关系。CuCl2和过量的铜屑在浓盐酸介质中加热约1—2分钟全部生成H[CuCl2]的无色溶液，将其直接倾入蒸馏水中便可得到大量CuCl的白色沉淀；再在用液体石蜡隔绝空气的CuCl固体中分别加入浓氨水和浓盐酸，即很容易生成H[CuCl2]、[Cu(NH3)2]Cl的无色配合物。操作方法简单，现象明显，结果与理论一致。     

浅析少数民族学生汉语标点符号的使用情况

在少数民族汉语教学中,标点符号误用较为突出,问题主要集中在以下三个方面：（1）不去主动规范得使用标点符号;（2）不懂得汉语标点符号使用的基本规律;（3）不重视汉语标点符号的基本书写方法。针对这些问题,应该尽早提高对标点符号的认识,在日常教学中应对学生进行有针对性的指导,确保学生系统地、真正地掌握汉语标点符号的用法。

The influence of study of a second language on improvement in spelling

The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent to which study of Latin might influence high school students' improvement in spelling. Skilled and less skilled spellers who chose to study Latin or other second languages in ninth-grade were given a standardized and an experimental spelling test, which allowed for a comparison of their spelling of words of Latin and Greek origin, both in the fall of their ninth-grade and the spring of their eleventh-grade year. While skilled spellers generally made greater progress than less skilled spellers, the students of Latin did not outperform students of other second languages either on the standardized spelling test or specifically on words of Latin origin. Analysis of errors on the experimental test indicated that certain words of Latin origin were misspelled as frequently by eleventh as by ninth graders; these may have affected the lower rate of improvement on words of Latin origin, in contrast to the words of Greek origin. The results suggest particular ways in which the relationship of spelling proficiency and study of language might be investigated further.
