Didactic lessons are only one part of the multimodal teaching strategies used in gross anatomy courses today. Increased emphasis is placed on providing more opportunities for students to develop lifelong learning and critical thinking skills during medical training. In a pilot program designed to promote more engaged and independent learning in anatomy, self‐study modules were introduced to supplement human gross anatomy instruction at Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University. Modules use three‐dimensional constructs to help students understand complex anatomical regions. Resources are self‐contained in portable bins and are accessible at any time. Students use modules individually or in groups in a structured self‐study format that augments material presented in lecture and laboratory. Pilot outcome data, measured by feedback surveys and examination performance statistics, suggest that the activity may be improving learning in gross anatomy. Positive feedback on both pre‐ and post‐examination surveys showed that students felt the activity helped to increase their understanding of the topic. In concordance with student perception, average examination scores on module‐related laboratory and lecture questions were higher in the two years of the pilot program compared with the year before its initiation. Modules can be fabricated on a modest budget using minimal resources, making implementation practical for smaller institutions. Upper level medical students assist in module design and upkeep, enabling continuous opportunities for vertical integration across the curriculum. This resource offers a feasible mechanism for enhancing independent and lifelong learning competencies, which could be a valuable complement to any gross anatomy curriculum. In Bahrain, 36 international universities from 10 different countries provide distance education services through 21 local agencies to more than 800 students. Results from a survey suggest that the majority of the distance education students are working, married, of middle income class, and studying for a Bachelor's degree. The students find the distance education option attractive because: (1) there are a limited number of places in the conventional Bahrainian universities and on particular courses, and limited scholarships and financial support available for conventional students; (2) the distance system is more open and flexible in respect of their regulatory requirements; and (3) the students find it caters better for those with poor secondary school scores, low income, family and job responsibilities.  相似文献

建立一种用高效液相色谱法测定茶叶中儿茶素的含量.方法:样品经乙醇提取,超声30min后,过C18小柱净化,样品溶液经0.45μm滤膜过滤后,用于HPLC分析.使用C18(5 um,150 mm×6.0 mm)色谱柱进行分离,用不同体积比混合的流动相A及流动相B的混合液作梯度淋洗,流速为1.0 ml/min,检测波长为280 nm,柱温为40℃.以甲醇∶水∶乙酸-26∶73.5∶0.5(体积比)为流动相.儿茶素在0.02~0.3 g/L范围内线性关系良好,回收率在98.2%~100.3%之间,相对标准偏差为1.6643%.该方法具有操作简便、快速、精密度高、回收率好、重现性较好、检测限低等优点.  相似文献

Using data generated by progressive nucleation mechanism on the cumulative fraction of citations of individual papers published successively by a hypothetical author, an expression for the time dependence of the cumulative number Lsum(t) of citations of progressively published papers is proposed. It was found that, for all nonzero values of constant publication rate ΔN, the cumulative citations Lsum(t) of the cumulative N papers published by an author in his/her entire publication career spanning over T years may be represented in distinct regions: (1) in the region 0 < t < Θ0 (where Θ0 ≈ T/3), Lsum(t) slowly increases proportionally to the square of the citation time t, and (2) in the region t > Θ0, Lsum(t) approaches a constant Lsum(max) at T. In the former region, the time dependence of Lsum(t) of an author is associated with three parameters, viz. the citability parameter λ0, the publication rate ΔN and his/her publication career t. Based on the predicted dependence of Lsum(t) on t, a useful scientometric age-independent measure, defined as citation acceleration a = Lsum(t)/t2, is suggested to analyze and compare the scientific activities of different authors. Confrontation of the time dependence of cumulative number Lsum(t) of citations of papers with the theoretical equation reveals one or more citation periods during the publication careers of different authors.  相似文献

对三垂面基体上非自发形核进行了研究. 根据非自发形核的条件,对临界形核半径和临界形核功进行了推导,得到了临界形核功与润湿角的数学表达式.结果表明,临界形核功仅与润湿角有关,说明润湿角在非自发形核中起非常重要的作用.对形核润湿角进行的讨论表明了,与自发形核相比,非自发形核具有更小的临界形核功.  相似文献
