Reporting Practices of Institutional Repositories: Analysis of Responses from Two Surveys

This article describes the results of two surveys, which gathered data about the reporting practices for institutional repositories (IR). The surveys were completed by library directors and IR managers, and questions were asked about strategic importance, content scope, and the methods and mechanisms libraries utilize to evaluate and report on IR use and impact. Data from the surveys helped inform the research of the project team and led to the development of the web service called the Repository Analytics & Metrics Portal.     

Adopting E-Readers with a Purpose: Surveying Users to Develop a Recreational Reading Kindle Lending Program

Studies have shown that students and faculty have reservations about the performance and usability of e-readers in an academic setting. However, incorporating e-readers on college campuses for recreational reading purposes has proven to be quite popular. These trends held true in a study conducted by librarians at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Students, faculty, and staff were surveyed on their use of and familiarity with e-books, e-readers, and tablet devices with e-reader functionality. Information gathered from this survey resulted in the launch of a pilot Kindle lending program focused exclusively on promoting recreational reading.

社交网站为科研调查者提供了新的调查途径与平台,科研调查者可基于不同社交网站平台,在不同调查情景中实施科研调查以弥补单一调查模式样本涵盖率低的缺陷。论文以人人网、腾讯QQ为例,采用验证性因子分析法,研究了匿名调查与非匿名调查获取科研数据的一致性问题。研究结果表明:非敏感性量表下两类调查数据具备完全一致性,科研人员可将所得数据直接整合;对于敏感性量表,两类调查数据不具备完全一致性,科研人员只有对获取数据进行相关预处理后,才可进行数据整合及相关统计分析。

为促进行业网站建设,使医学学术文献资源服务网站的评价更加客观公正,文章以网络调查问卷的形式,了解学术用户对网站建立的评价指标体系的态度与看法,依据调查结果可以对评价指标体系进行分析与修正,并对网站建设与发展提出建议。     

Questionnaires as interventions: can taking a survey increase teachers’ openness to student feedback surveys?

Administrators often struggle in getting teachers to trust their school’s evaluation practices – a necessity if teachers are to learn from the feedback they receive. We attempted to bolster teachers’ support for receiving evaluative feedback from a particularly controversial source: student-perception surveys. For our intervention, we took one of two approaches to asking 309 teachers how they felt about students evaluating their teaching practice. Control participants responded only to core questions regarding their attitudes towards student-perception surveys. Meanwhile, treatment participants were first asked whether teachers should evaluate administrators in performance reviews and were then asked the core items about student-perception surveys. Congruent with cognitive dissonance theory, this juxtaposition of questions bolstered treatment teachers’ support for using student surveys in teacher evaluations relative to the control group. We discuss the implications of these findings with respect to increasing teacher openness to alternative evaluation approaches, and consider whether surveys show promise as a vehicle for delivering interventions.     

Developing a Cancer-Focused Library Survey — Assessing the Current Environment and Planning for the Future

The primary goal of this project is to understand how each National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center library, and all libraries that support cancer research, function within their institutions. Through an in-depth survey focused on three major areas (staff, content and tools procurement, and user services), the research team hopes to determine how a cancer-centric library can be successful in supporting quality patient care, research excellence, and education. Additionally, the survey will examine the necessary minimum staffing levels for librarians and information professionals based on organizational size and degree of research focus. The survey will seek out the new skills librarians will need to deliver optimal services. The survey will also explore how content libraries purchase reflects and maps to constituents’ current medical and research activities. Libraries within a research intense environment have a responsibility to align with researchers and health care professionals to provide resources and services that support their workflows. Cancer libraries need to be attuned to their institutions’ missions, whether that includes excellent patient care, research endeavors, or cutting-edge educational programs. The information gathered from the survey will provide data for this research team to define the vision and standards of excellence for a cancer specialized research library.

Reliability of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire in Research Settings: Last 7-Day Self-Administered Long Form

This study examined the validity and reliability of decisional balance scales for exercise (i.e., pros and cons) in a large longitudinal population-based randomized sample of Canadian adults ages 18 to 65 years (N = 703). Assessments were taken over 3 time points with 6-month intervals between testing. Content, factorial, concurrent, and construct validity along with internal consistency and test-retest reliability were established for the decisional balance scales. The developed measures have utility for researchers and practitioners who test and apply the exercise decisional balance constructs of the Transtheoretical Model.

通过问卷及访谈,笔者对陕西省农村中学物理实验教学情况进行了调查研究,结果表明农村中学物理实验教学存在着教学仪器质量不佳和不足,实验数量偏少或不做,教师对实验教学缺乏信心等问题.这些问题需要人力、财力的投入,需要通过加强培训提高认识、专业引领来解决.
