In 2007, Environmental Education Research dedicated a special issue to childhood and environmental education. This paper makes a case for ‘early childhood’ to also be in the discussions. Here, I am referring to early childhood as the before‐school years, focusing on educational settings such as childcare centres and kindergartens. This sector is one of the research ‘holes’ that Reid and Scott ask the environmental education community to have the ‘courage to discuss’. This paper draws on a survey of Australian and international research journals in environmental education and early childhood education seeking studies at their intersection. Few were found. Some studies explored young children’s relationships with nature (education in the environment). A smaller number discussed young children’s understandings of environmental topics (education about the environment). Hardly any centred on young children as agents of change (education for the environment). At a time when there is a growing literature showing that early investments in human capital offer substantial returns to individuals and communities and have a far‐reaching effect – and when early childhood educators are beginning to engage with sustainability – it is vital that our field responds. This paper calls for urgent action – especially for research – to address the gap.  相似文献

Nowadays, there is a growing conviction (at least in rhetoric) that sustainability is an idea whose time has come with education being a critical component in the transition towards a sustainable future. In the field of higher agricultural education, systemic approaches have, among others, triggered a lively dialogue. Topics include the challenge of sustainable agricultural development, the understanding of agriculture as the interface between people and their environment, integrated curricula (i.e. multi- inter- and trans-disciplinary approaches), etc. Such powerful debates have (sometimes radical) consequences for the whole curriculum design, i.e. the nature of goals, content (knowledge), and processes (learning methodologies). However, the still dominant scientific paradigm of reductionism, the strong traditions of disciplines and the prevailing approach to agricultural development impede changes towards a new educational paradigm in higher education. Nonetheless, such a new paradigm should be supported if universities are to keep pace in a changing world.  相似文献

The northern Wet Tropics rainforest of Australia was declared a world heritage site in 1988 and now supports an extensive tourism industry that attracts an estimated 2.5 million local and international visits annually. As part of the visitor experience, many sites include both environmental and cultural interpretation experiences, which range from static displays to one‐on‐one guided tours. This paper identifies visitor demand and level of satisfaction with the static signage and displays used at rainforest sites throughout the Wet Tropics. The research involves visitor surveys conducted in 2007 and 2008 and observations at a number of rainforest sites. The results indicate that visitors consider the level of interpretation to be adequate, but appear to use it poorly. While higher at commercial sites, visitor interest in reading the interpretation is very low at public sites. Overall, this article seeks to address whether the aims of nature‐based interpretation, including education and the influencing of attitudes and site behaviour, are being achieved.  相似文献

This paper reports on the thoughts 6-year-olds and 9-year-olds have related to the serious issue of air and sea pollution. More specifically, twenty seven 6-year-olds and thirty 9-year-olds attending two state schools in Volos, a small provincial town in Greece participated in the research which assessed the students’ competence to think systemically about dealing with pollution. The study sheds light on whether students are able to identify interrelations between the components of pollution, and clarifies the mental models they hold. Data was collected through drawings and interviews, subsequent analysis of which indicates that students appeared to hold two mental models related to pollution; pollution is connected both spatially and temporally with visible pollutants; and, pollution is connected indirectly with invisible pollutants. The students seemed to exhibit a kind of systemic thinking, which was done unconsciously to a certain degree. Thus it is a challenge for education to enhance students’ systemic thinking in an attempt to bring it to a more conscious level, which will assist them to reconstruct their mental models of pollution.  相似文献

企业的动态能力和可持续发展已是学术探讨的一个重要命题。可持续发展作为一种管理趋势,在现代组织战略管理中发挥着日益重要的作用。但现有文献对于如何将可持续发展更加动态化同时与企业战略相结合转化为企业绩效及其过程研究较为匮乏。本研究基于资源管理视角,通过收集163个企业管理人员调研数据并使用最小二乘结构方程模型进行建模(PLS-SEM)分析了动态可持续能力对企业可持续绩效的全面影响及其内在机制。研究结果显示:动态可持续能力由监控、捕获和重构能力构成,动态可持续能力对企业可持续绩效各维度具有显著正向影响,资源管理能力部分中介动态可持续能力与企业环境和社会绩效的关系,但对经济绩效没有中介效应。本研究丰富了动态能力和可持续发展理论,并为企业在面对可持续发展问题时提供有效的经营管理建议。  相似文献

信息技术(IT)的快速发展对于实现企业的可持续发展机遇与挑战并存。信息技术的运用一方面会导致能源消耗、社会分化,另一方面绿色技术创新也为可持续发展提供了现实可能。但现有文献对IT能力的可持续发展价值及其过程研究较为匮乏。本文根据资源基础观,构建企业可持续发展绩效的整合模型。以214家汽车制造企业为样本,运用结构方程模型实证分析了IT能力对经济、社会和环境多层面可持续发展绩效的全面影响及其内在机制。实证结论发现IT能力有助于提升企业整体绩效表现,促进可持续发展绩效;业务流程敏捷性是IT能力重塑企业的关键环节,对于IT能力与可持续发展绩效之间的关系具有显著的中介效应。最后,本文基于上述研究发现提出相应的管理启示和未来方向。  相似文献
