DC元数据年度进展（2010）

文章介绍了都柏林元数据（DC）2010年年会基本情况,以及DC管理机构DCMI近一年的研究成果,其中主要是对关联数据理论与实践的研究,以及在关联数据和互操作环境下对DCMI推荐文档进行的相关审议和修订。文章也总结了DCMI过去一年工作与组织进展,探索了DCMI的发展方向。     

基于MODS的数字图书馆元数据集成

文章通过分析数字图书馆中主要存在的元数据DC和MARC格式以及MODS元数据的特点,提出基于MODS的数字图书馆元数据集成方法,为解决数字图书馆集成化检索和统一编目的问题提供新的思路。     

大数据背景下科学元数据的重要问题研究

科学元数据是加强科学数据管理和共享服务的重要手段之一。数据密集型的科研范式和大数据技术的广泛应用突显了科学数据的重要作用,也对科学元数据的内容、形式和功能等方面提出了新的要求和挑战。本文在对科学元数据的发展现状进行分析的基础上,梳理了科学元数据的相关定义和功能要求,进而从可追溯性、可关联性和互操作性三个方面阐述了大数据背景下的新要求,最后讨论了相关技术及其发展趋势。     

Work in Progress: The PCC Task Group on Metadata Application Profiles

Abstract

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) Task Group on Metadata Application Profiles was convened in May 2019 to help the PCC understand issues and practices associated with the management of metadata application profiles. Their work, discussed here, will guide future decisions and implementations of metadata application profiles in cataloging.     

Analyzing Cataloging Job Descriptions: Are Cataloging Jobs Disappearing,Changing, or Merging?

Abstract

To determine the state of the cataloging job market, this study compares job advertisements from August 2016-August 2018 advertising for jobs with cataloging in the title, metadata in the title, and cataloging and metadata in the title. Given ongoing concerns about the impact of metadata jobs on the cataloging job market, this study asks the questions: Are cataloging jobs in fact “disappearing” and becoming metadata jobs? Are entry-level jobs disappearing, perhaps contributing to the idea that there is a lack of qualified catalogers? Is there a difference in position level between cataloging and metadata job advertisements that can account for a lack or perceived lack of available cataloging jobs? Are there more entry-level or mid/supervisory positions advertised? Are cataloging and metadata jobs really separate, or should they be considered one position called cataloging and metadata?     

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging’s Transformative Role as a Leader of Change

Abstract

The transformation of library metadata encoded in MARC to linked data will enable libraries to participate in the Semantic Web. This transformation, however, will be an iterative development dependent upon community-based decisions. The PCC, as a community-based organization, is ideally positioned to lead this transformation. As PCC guides this transition, three broad areas must be resolved: the conversion of legacy data to linked data, the use of identifiers to support controlled headings, and the transformation of current workflows to linked-data counterparts. By embracing the Web as a community, PCC can confirm its relevance in a complex web of global data.

分析了医学数字资源整合的关键问题,针对元数据的深层动态获取、跨机构跨平台的整合、知识内容整合等问题,提出了深度整合和智能化检索的目标,并介绍了目前比较成熟的解决方法和技术路线,以及本馆的相关实践和部分实验。     

The Prague Spring Archive at the University of Texas at Austin

ABSTRACT

There is a noted lack of primary historical documents related to the Prague Spring, one of the key moments in the Cold War, available online. As such, there is a need for an online resource that presents these primary documents in their entirety, allowing researchers and the public to engage with these materials in a user-friendly, open access format. The Prague Spring Archive, a new project at The University of Texas at Austin, fills this gap. This article addresses the development, promotion, and future steps of the project.     

Linked Data Metadata for Digital Clothing Collections

ABSTRACT

The historical clothing collections held by academic and other institutions serve as an important resource for scholars in fields ranging from fashion design to sociology. While metadata schemes have been created for individual clothing collections, no standard metadata scheme for clothing had been developed. This case study describes the creation of a linked data metadata scheme for clothing designed for the Oregon State University's College of Business Design Programs' Historical and Cultural Textile and Apparel Collection housed within the ScholarsArchive digital repository. In addition, the scheme can be used as a standard clothing metadata scheme which may be implemented by other organizations, or extended as needed.

The “Advances in Library Data and Access” column examines technological advances internal and external to libraries. The focus is on how library data is created and used. The strength of the column is its broad, international focus and contributors are encouraged to explore issues and recent advances in information technology relevant to their geographical region, as well as the larger, global audience.
