英语新闻报道中转述引语的批评性分析

转述引语是新闻报道中的重要部分,它被认为可以增强报道的客观性和真实性。以批评话语分析理论为基础,从消息来源、转述方式和转述动词等方面分析了三篇英语新闻报道中的转述引语。研究表明,新闻报道中的转述引语并非绝对客观公正,报道者往往以各种方式对转述引语加以控制,使其按照自己的意识形态和交际目的采展示给读者。     

汉英学术写作中引用的对比研究

为了研究母语分别为汉语和英语的学者在同一领域的学术写作中引用的使用的异同,笔者选取了语言政策与语言规划领域中具有代表性的中英文学术论文为研究对象,发现两者之间既有共同点也存在差异性。其中差异性主要体现在：英语文章较汉语文章更多使用直接引用而较少使用间接引用中的完整引用;英语文章中转述动词的丰富性要远远高于汉语;英语中参考文献较汉语更新更全面。     

Peer reporting of coworker wrongdoing: A qualitative analysis of observer attitudes in the decision to report versus not report unethical behavior

An employee who observes unethical behavior by a colleague will often question whether the incident warrants reporting. The purpose of this study was to examine factors that may affect peer reporting of questionable behavior committed by a colleague. One hundred ninety‐seven (N = 197) registered nurses responded to a survey regarding reports of unethical behavior by coworkers. Results revealed that individual characteristics of the observer (such as personal ethics), situational factors (such as severity of the wrongdoing), and organizational issues (such as compliance or non‐compliance with policy and procedures) contributed to the reporting or not reporting of a coworker's wrongdoing. Discussion and implications suggest that various individual, situational, and organizational issues may affect an employee's decision to either report or not report unethical behavior committed by a coworker

There's No Place Like Home

This narrative analysis explores the juxtaposition of local crime news in Omaha, Nebraska with coverage of local troops embedded in Afghanistan in April 2011. It argues that narrative devices such as scene-setting, characterization, sourcing, and the use of dramatic elements constructed violence abroad as heroic and expected, but disruptive and dangerous at home; these contrasts worked to sustain a dominant ideology of institutional superiority.     

BREAKING NEWS OR BROKEN NEWS?

Television news directors increasingly utilize live shots in their newscasts for reasons other than journalistic value. Reporters and viewers alike react negatively to such “black hole” live shots. Nine news directors and nine senior reporters participated in this qualitative study designed to reveal their differing attitudes toward various aspects of live reporting. Analysis revealed significant tensions between the two groups. The news directors, who are responsible for the news program as a whole, include non-journalistic reasons such as presentation and station identity for including remote live shots. Senior reporters are chiefly concerned with their own contributions to the overall news program. They claim to understand these justifications but often disagree with how they are asked to execute them. The data also reveal one station violating the Radio Television Digital News Association Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct by allowing sponsors to determine editorial content.
