Quality Control in Education: — The Span of Control Controversy ‐Some Practical Considerations

This article gives the background to the introduction of a statutory system of staff appraisal in schools in England. It explains and provides insights into the various stages of the appraisal process from a management perspective. It begins from the premise that a manager is responsible for the performance of staff which he or she manages. Finally, it discusses a number of issues which are problematic and which need to be resolved if a staff appraisal scheme is to be successful from both the individual's and the school's viewpoints.     

School policy on teaching and school learning environment: direct and indirect effects upon student outcome measures

School policy on teaching and the school learning environment (SLE) are the main school factors of the dynamic model of educational effectiveness (Creemers & Kyriakides, 2008 Kyriakides, L. and Tsangaridou, N. 2008. Towards the development of generic and differentiated models of educational effectiveness: A study on school and teacher effectiveness in physical education. British Educational Research Journal, 34: 807–838. [Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]). A longitudinal study in which 50 primary schools, 108 classes, and 2369 students participated generated evidence supporting the validity of the dynamic model. This article reports the results of a re-analysis of the data of this study in order to search for direct and indirect effects of school factors included in the model. Using multilevel structural equation modelling techniques, indirect effects of school policy on teaching and SLE upon achievement in mathematics and Greek language are demonstrated. Implications of findings are drawn. Comparing the results of the multilevel direct and indirect effect model with those from using a multilevel regression model, we demonstrate the importance of choosing appropriate conceptual models and using relevant methodological approaches to understand the dynamic nature of educational effectiveness.     

Magnetic field effect on the fluorescence properties of two metal(Ⅱ) complexes based on 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyltrithio-tri-acetate

Two metal (Ⅱ) complexes based on 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyltrithio-tri-acetate exhibit similar (6,3)-connected 2D layer with kgd topology. Negative and positive magnetic field effects (MFEs) on the fluorescence properties of the Mn(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ) complexes are observed, respectively.     

情境教学法在高职院校日语教学中应用研究

以在日语视听说课程中融入情境教学为例,阐述在教学中融入情境教学的必要性、融入情境教学的方法及情境教学具体案例,最后阐述情境教学的效果：即通过情境教学可以使日语语言教学真实化,激发学习者的积极性,培养学生国际化视野及思维能力,将单纯的语言学习转变为目标性的综合能力的培养,能极大地提高教学效果及学生语言的实际应用能力。

有人戏说苏州女人吵架像"唱歌",而北方女孩性格豪爽,说话"字正腔圆,嗓门响亮";某些中国游客在国外旅游时常被抱怨"肆意喧哗",而欧美客人在餐厅里却显得"温文尔雅"。这完全是生活习惯的问题吗?笔者通过对几种特定语言在音节、音素等方面的特点进行了分析和对比,阐述了不同语言的发音特点对其语言效果和语言文化的某些影响。     

Accuracy of Estimates and Statistical Power for Testing Meditation in Latent Growth Curve Modeling

The latent growth curve modeling (LGCM) approach has been increasingly utilized to investigate longitudinal mediation. However, little is known about the accuracy of the estimates and statistical power when mediation is evaluated in the LGCM framework. A simulation study was conducted to address these issues under various conditions including sample size, effect size of mediated effect, number of measurement occasions, and R ₂ of measured variables. In general, the results showed that relatively large samples were needed to accurately estimate the mediated effects and to have adequate statistical power, when testing mediation in the LGCM framework. Guidelines for designing studies to examine longitudinal mediation and ways to improve the accuracy of the estimates and statistical power were discussed.     

Explaining Method Effects Associated With Negatively Worded Items in Trait and State Global and Domain-Specific Self-Esteem Scales

Several investigators have interpreted method effects associated with negatively worded items in a substantive way. This research extends those studies in different ways: (a) it establishes the presence of methods effects in further populations and particular scales, and (b) it examines the possible relations between a method factor associated with negatively worded items and several covariates. Two samples were assessed: 592 high school students from Valencia (Spain), and 285 batterers from the same city. The self-esteem scales used were Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale, the State Self-Esteem Scale, and Self-Esteem 17. Anxiety was also assessed with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and gender and educational level were taken into account. The models were conducted using a multiple indicators and multiple causes (MIMIC) model framework. The evidence in this research pointed out that method effects were present across the different measures of self-esteem. Moreover, a significant and negative effect of anxiety on method effects was present across scales and samples, whereas no effects of age or educational level where found.

“合作学习”策略在翻译教学中的应用

在翻译教学中,传统的教学模式存在着忽视学生主体性、学生自主学习能力差及教师作业批改量大等诸多弊端。结合翻译教学,对"合作学习"策略指导下的翻译教学模式进行了初步探讨和实践,针对具体情况,将一般意义上的"合作教学"程序做了灵活调整,而后逐步分析教学效果,对比成绩,总结实施效果。在教学过程中教师为辅助,最大限度地发挥学生的学习主动性,调动学生的积极性和学习热情,培养学生独立发现问题、解决问题的能力,强化师生间、生生间的团结合作精神,相互学习,相互帮助,共同进步。
