This article provides a contextual understanding of accessibility in higher education as well as strategies for evaluating, negotiating, and procuring accessible electronic resources licensed through third party vendors.

Accessibility design issues with UK e-government sites

The research seeks to provide the audience and web designers with a higher level of awareness about the level of accessibility problems within the e-government sector, specifically a sampling of 130 sites of the UK members of Parliament. The study applies the results of an online accessibility testing tool to analyze the compliance levels of both UK disability law and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The research also show which guideline errors are the most prevalent among the sites and raises awareness about the issues of access in e-government. Although the UK's Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) of 1995 provides equality in access of websites to people with disabilities, the results of this study show that total openness of sites to these customers is not widespread and the vast majority of sites display similar non-compliance errors among the guidelines. For each of these issues, there are published methods that web designers can implement to improve the accessibility rankings of their sites and provide greater openness to users with disabilities.     

The relationship between meeting of recommendations on physical activity for health and perceived work ability among white-collar workers

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between meeting recommendations on physical activity for health in leisure-time and the ability to work among Polish white-collar workers. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design with a convenience sample of 360 white-collar workers. Participants recorded 7-day physical activity logs, including form, duration and intensity of leisure-time physical activities. The results were compared to health recommendations. A standardized Work Ability Index (WAI) questionnaire was used in assessing the ability to work. Results: Participants who met health recommendations achieved higher scores of the WAI (mean score?=?41.93) in comparison to those who were not sufficiently physically active (mean score?=?39.35) (p?Conclusions: Meeting leisure-time physical activity recommendations (especially the criterion of vigorous physical activity) is significantly related to higher self-assessed ability to work among white-collar workers.     

Social Media Guidelines for Journalists

Now that an increasing number of journalists and editorial offices make use of social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to research, break, distribute and discuss the news, social media guidelines are being issued with increasing frequency by news organizations that want to indicate to journalists what is and is not permitted on these platforms. This study investigates how Flemish journalists experience the sense and nonsense of these social media guidelines, focusing on rules that prescribe their behaviour on Twitter. Analysis of 20 in-depth interviews demonstrates that the majority of Flemish journalists find the introduction of rules concerning the use of Twitter unnecessary. The argument heard most often is that the journalist's common sense should be enough to deal with the platform in the proper way. A number of journalists even find the rules a curtailment of individual freedom. Guidelines concerning specific formal requirements—such as mentioning the employer in the Twitter biography and/or account name, or the requirement to only use one account—encounter particular resistance. The journalists interviewed are, however, favourably disposed to a list of non-enforceable recommendations. Based on these findings, the tweeting journalists seem to indicate that they themselves are able to both adapt their use of social media to fit traditional professional norms and adapt those norms to fit the media logic of the Twitter platform.

文章运用多源流理论分析新时代学校思想政治课改革创新议程的设置过程,揭示《关于深化新时代学校思想政治理论课改革创新的若干意见》政策过程的内在逻辑机理。研究发现,高校思想政治理论课的吸引力不强、教师职业素养不高、大学生思想理论认知状况堪忧构成问题源流;多方群策群力共议改革举措构成政策源流;党和政府的执政意愿与国民情绪"同频共振"构成政治源流。三条源流在相关政策的"伴奏"与各地高校政策实践的"合奏"下实现耦合,开启政策之窗。未来应着力提高对问题回应、政策选择、政治筛选的功能,发挥"政策溢出"的辐射影响力。     

Metriken und Regeln für eine zustandsbasierte SW-Entwicklung im Automobilbereich

Zusammenfassung Im Folgenden wird ein prototypisches Werkzeug zur Qualit?tssicherung im modellbasierten Entwurf vorgestellt. Mit diesem Programm kann eine automatische überprüfung von Modellierungsregeln an zustandsbasierten Modellen erfolgen. Des Weiteren ist eine Bewertung des Gesamtsystems durch Software-Metriken m?glich. Der Prototyp namens Regel Checker wurde im Rahmen eines Automotive-Projekts entwickelt und eingesetzt. Mit Hilfe des Regel Checkers k?nnen Modellierungsregeln und Software-Metriken in OCL bzw. Java definiert werden, um Inkonsistenzen, Inkompatibilit?ten sowie Designfehler zu analysieren und zu bewerten.

In the following, a prototypic tool is introduced for quality assurance in model-based design. Automatic checking of modelling rules in state-based models can be done with this application. Furthermore, an evaluation of the total system is possible by means of software metrics. The prototype called rule checker has been developed and used in a automotive project. With the Rule Checker, modelling rules and software metrics can be defined in OCL and/or Java in order to analyse and evaluate inconsistencies, incompatibilities as well as design errors.

A Usage Survey of Standards and Guidelines Affecting Library Services to Distance Education Nursing Programs

Abstract

There are a number of important documents that provide guidance in the consideration of library services supporting nursing programs and students at a distance. Standards are available from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In addition, the Association of College and Research Libraries' (ACRL) Guidelines for Distance Learning Library Services offers interested parties another option, as do the more recently published Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. This paper reports on a survey concerning these documents and their usefulness to those planning or enhancing library services in support of distance nursing programs and students.
