我国科技期刊数字出版的SWOT分析

我国科技期刊数字出版虽然有较快发展,但与欧美发达国家相比仍处于落后状态.通过采用SWOT分析的方法,从优势、劣势、机遇、威胁4个方面对我国科技期刊数字出版所具有的内、外部条件等方面的情况进行全面概括和综合分析,以期为发展我国科技期刊的数字出版提供参考.     

中国学术期刊同行评审的实践与研究

我国学术期刊稿件的同行评审伴随着学术出版业的迅速发展和学术期刊的国际化进程而逐步发展起来。本文概要地梳理了近年来中国学术界对同行评审的有效性以及同行评审专家的职能定位等问题的研究,分析和探讨了中国学术期刊同行评审实践中存在的几个主要问题。     

Gender and research publishing in India: Uniformly high inequality?

Women’s access to academic careers has been historically limited by discrimination and cultural constraints. Comprehensive information about gender inequality within disciplines is needed to understand the problem and target remedial action. India is the fifth largest research producer but has a low international index of gender inequality and so is an important case. This study assesses gender inequalities in Indian journal article publishing in 2017 for 186 research fields. It also seeks overall gender differences in interests across academia by comparing the terms used in 27,710 articles with an Indian male or female first author. The data show that there are at least 1.5 male first authors per female first author in each of 26 broad fields and 2.8 male first authors per female first author overall. Compared to the USA, India has a much lower share of female first authors but smaller variations in gender differences between broad fields. Dentistry, Economics and Maths are all more female in India, but Veterinary is much less female than in the USA. There is a tendency for males to research thing-oriented topics and for females to research helping people and some life science topics. More initiatives to promote gender equality in science are needed to address the overall imbalance, but care should be taken to avoid creating the larger between-field gender differences found in the USA.     

Black Studies Scholarship and Its Coverage in Thomson Reuters’ Web of Science

This study analyzes the coverage of black studies journals as compared to women's studies journals in Web of Science, Academic Search Complete, and ArticleFirst. This study also examines black studies bibliographies and directories to identify journals that are suitable for inclusion in Journal Citation Reports and consequently Web of Science and evaluates seven black studies journals using the Thomson Reuters journal selection process.

A Publisher Perspective: How One Publisher is Responding to the Changing World of Scholarly Communication

For this talk, Marks was tasked with summarizing the important trends in scholarly publishing in 45 minutes. The speaker reflected on the rapid changes that have occurred in journal publishing, which followed more than 300 years of relatively slow progress. Marks discussed key technology trends such as data curation, Open Access (OA) mandates, and the changes occurring in the global landscape of scholarly communications and library budgets. Wolters Kluwer Health has been responding to these trends with new publishing experiments including a Platinum OA model in emerging markets. Marks discussed the ways that publishers and libraries need to alter their traditional practices and instill a focus on their customers and communities.     

JSTOR

SUMMARY

JSTOR has become a standard offering at most U.S. universities and colleges, as well as a growing number of higher education institutions outside the U.S. This paper will track the growth of JSTOR since its inception in 1995 as an experimental digitization project to today as an archive of over 500 scholarly titles in 40 disciplines. We will consider the two threads of JSTOR's mission-to safeguard titles in a digital form, and to provide access to them as broadly as possibleand assess the value the project has provided to the academic community. In addition, there will be some discussion of future directions and challenges for JSTOR.     

OA出版技术进展及对国内OA论文可见度的启示

开放获取(Open Access,OA)出版平台及OA论文的查找定位技术在近5年飞速壮大。虽然学术出版界对OA论文在引用上的优势已达成共识,但是OA论文的传播途径和获取可见度的方式仍然模糊。本文通过分析近年来OA出版平台技术、索引技术及查找定位技术的发展,深入了解它们的运作机制,从而梳理出OA论文出版体系,描绘了OA论文的传播路径,并借此分析国内OA出版在技术上的短板及未来发展方向,提出了提升国内OA论文可见度的具体实施措施,以利于提高我国OA学术出版在国际上的影响力。
