At school, pupils often cooperate on common projects and must coordinate their different individual actions. However, grades are pervasively used even in cooperative situations, which make the pupils’ differences in achievement and their relative rank salient and may reduce their inclination to work constructively with others. Thus, we hypothesized that grades would elicit disruptive interactions and reduce performance in a cooperative cognitive-motor task necessitating inter-individual coordination of members. In a study with 5th graders, grades (vs. a neutral concept) were primed at the onset of a cooperative group interaction. Results showed that, although pupils were set to work cooperatively, priming grades (vs. neutral concepts) harmed inter-individual coordination by eliciting more negative dominant behaviours among pupils during interactions, which decreased group performance.  相似文献

This article analyzes the emergence of TV series criticism, a recent journalistic genre in French magazines. It aims to show how dedicated fans have become professional series journalists starting in the early 1990s. The study demonstrates that this new kind of journalism challenges cultural hierarchies by legitimizing TV series as a cultural genre and distinguishing between different types of series.  相似文献

General practitioners (GPs) need advanced skills in geriatric assessment to be competent to treat the increasing number of elderly patients. Continuing medical education in geriatrics for GPs is heterogeneous, and not assessed for effectiveness. In this study we compared the educational effects of three geriatric post-graduate training methods on GPs. GPs in the health district of the Nijmegen University Medical Centre (The Netherlands) were offered a variety of training options in geriatric assessment: (1) a formal one-day teacher centered conference (TCC), (2) an interactive GP-centered day of workshops (GCW), and (3) participation in a project of knowledge translation, linked to a research project of geriatric intermediate care (GKT). After training, neither the attitudes towards the elderly nor geriatric patients changed in any of the three groups. The TCC did not show a significant change in perceived competencies, while the GCW and GKT group improved. A formal large group conference is ineffective in improving GPs' geriatric assessment skills, while small interactive workshops and participation in a project of knowledge translation are equally effective. None of the three training methods improved or worsened attitudes toward the elderly in general or the geriatric patients in particular.  相似文献

Using a narrative autoethnographical approach, this article details the identity-related and social repercussions of my experiences as a former victim of social, verbal, and physical bullying in public Franco-Ontarian elementary (1986–1994) and high (1994–1999) schools. The highlighted experiences are more specifically correlated with social representations of feminine beauty and alternative sexual orientations. This article is based on a study that encompasses the following elements: the social environment that contributes to the production, development, internalization, and reproduction of social representations, norms, and identities through interaction; experience which includes stigmatization and bullying; and the continuity of experience inherent to socialization and identity formation. Other concepts (e.g. marginalized multiplicities and intersectionality) are also discussed.  相似文献

Accelerometry is widely used to evaluate physical activity in toddlers however recommendations regarding wear time are needed to understand physical activity behaviours in this age group. This study aimed to determine the minimum wear time to reliably evaluate physical activity in toddlers. Children from the 3D Birth Cohort (n = 255, 49.8% boys, 2.1 ± 0.2 years) were asked to wear an accelerometer (GT3X+, ActiGraph) for 7 days. Physical activity was expressed in active time (min/day) and counts per minute (CPM). Single day intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated to assess the effect of varying minimal wear time on reliability estimates. The Spearman-Brown formula was used to determine wear time required to achieve reliability levels of 70%, 80% and 90%. For active time, a reliability of 72.1% was achieved with wearing the accelerometer for ≥ 4 days of ≥ 6 h, which comprised 85.9% of the sample. For CPM, ≥ 4 days of ≥ 6 h provided a reliability of 74.7% and comprised 85.9% of the children. Results differed slightly when girls and boys were analysed separately, but restricting analyses to children with a weekend day did not. In summary, a minimum of 4 days with ≥ 6 h of accelerometry data provides a reliable estimate of physical activity in 2-year toddlers.  相似文献
