We report a case of a diabetic, heterozygote with near normal hematology, marginally low level of hemoglobin A2(HbA2) having an increased level of hemoglobin F(HbF) that was pancellularly distributed among the red cells. BioRad DiaSTAT measurements
gave a high glycated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c) of 31.5% and the BioRad Variant analyzer recorded an HbA1c value which was very
low, in discordance with the detected blood glucose levels. Flow cytometry and polymerization chain reaction (PCR) based studies
were carried out which revealed the case to be that of the common hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin (HPFH)-3, an
Asian Indian mutation. Fructosamine estimation and HbA1c by Boronate affinity chromatography were able to resolve the discordant
value detected and was able to confirm the diabetes status. The case would have been a diagnostic dilemma, if reported without

Experimental model of chronic renal failure in rats have been described by many authors and has also been widely used in various
studies. Many of these methods used highly sophisticated instruments which was difficult in our settings. The resection model
was ideal in our experimental set-up, but this model had the risk of excessive bleeding and hypovolemia. In our study we used
a combination of partial resection and ligation of the renal artery to create two models of stable uremia A and Moderate uremia
B. Severe uremia. Both these models were compared with a sham operated group which served as controls. Following surgical
procedure, the development of uremia was monitored by serial estimation of blood urea and serum creatinine levels that were
measured at regular intervals (bi-weekly). From two weeks onwards the animals in the experimental group showed a significant
elevation in the serum urea levels and a consistent elevation in the serum creatinine levels upto eight weeks when compared
to the animals in the sham operated group. We established a modified method of producing renal failure which can be maintained
for a period of six weeks. This model is simple, reproducible and less complicated that can be used for several studies relating
to renal failure in the field of research. 相似文献

Serum phenytoin levels were measured in grand mal epilepsy patients receiving diphenyl hydantoin. The drug levels were correlated with various biochemical parametres. A linear relationship between the levels of diphenyl hydantoin and creatinine was observed. This positive correlation coefficient was found to be statistically signifficant. This correlation may be related to a positive Jaffe’s reaction seen with the chromogen diphenyl hydantoin. 相似文献

Can serum Glutathione-S-transferase levels in carcinoma cervix be a predictor of radiation response?

We conducted a pilot study wherein serum Glutathione-S-transferase levels were measured before and after radiotherapy in carcinoma
cervix patients and correlated with response to treatment during a two-year follow-up period. Out of 17 patients who received
radiotherapy, 9 showed a significant decrease (p<0.005) while 8 showed significant increase (p<0.004) in post radiotherapy
glutathione-S-transferase values as compared to pre treatment values respectively. These patients were followed up for two
years and we observed that 71% who had significant increase in post radiotherapy values had relapse of cancer within 2 years
where as 66% of those who had significant decrease in post radiotherapy values had no evidence of relapse. This shows that
alterations in serum Glutathione-S-transferase levels may help us to predict radiation response 相似文献
