Structured Group Supervision (SGS): A Pilot Study

The article reports the pilot study results of a Structured Group Supervision (SGS) model. The structured model of group supervision seemed superior in comparison with “control” group supervision.     

Designing a telematic learning environment in a social constructivist paradigm

The authors of this paper are engaged in designing and developing telematic learning environments to assist in programmes of initial teacher training. Two aspects have been supported by European Union (EU) funded programmes: the Telematics for Teacher Training (T3) and Reflect projects. Telematics is a term describing the combined use of information technology and telecommunications. The authors are not searching for a pedagogy of telematics but are seeking ways in which telematics can assist pedagogy. Their work specifically addresses the question of whether it is possible to design such environments in a social constructivist paradigm and the evaluation of their work regularly returns to the theoretical model of learning central to their training programmes. The authors will show that whereas the aspect of video-conferencing keeps faith with their view of the nature of learning, the design of the website is raising some issues that have, as yet, to be resolved

ASSESSING KNOWLEDGE OF CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES

Several item-types which may be used to test for the acquisition of subject-matter concepts and principles are described. Each item-type is discussed in terms of its ability to tap more than reproductive capabilities. Research hypotheses deducible from the item-types are presented and discussed.     

Counselor Education and the Psychology of More

Counselor educators have called for more and more training in a variety of areas. Taken individually, most of these areas are important and legitimate training domains. The implicit assumption, however, seems to be that academic programs represent an ever-expanding economy of time and resources.     

A Project-based Learning Approach for Computer-integrated Design and Manufacture

An approach is presented, based on the use of commercial CAD/CAM software, for demonstrating the interdependent and integrated nature of the marketing, design and manufacture functions. A ‘T’-root turbine blade is considered from design through to manufacture using CAD/CAM software, and this approach enables varied and multidisciplinary aspects to be considered which reinforce other course material such as three-dimensional visualization, industrial design, net shape processing, and mechanics of materials. The approach is project-based and student-centred requiring active learning, and is intended to encourage student interest and enthusiasm in manufacturing technology.
