This study examines the impact that collective bargaining has on multiple dimensions of teacher compensation, including average and starting salaries, early and late returns to experience, returns to graduate degrees, and the incidence of different pay for performance schemes. Using data from the School and Staffing Survey (SASS) and a more recent data set, the Teacher Rules, Roles and Rights (TR3), we find that collective bargaining has a significant impact on all aspects of current, qualification-specific salary schedules. Further, we find some evidence that bargaining impacts the design of performance pay plans. Specifically, unions tend to encourage teacher bonuses that are based on additional qualifications or duties, but discourage bonuses that directly reward improved student test scores. 相似文献

Learning transfer from training and development programs to the workplace is a central issue of concern for human resource development specialists. Action Reflection Learning™ (ARL™) is a form of action learning that places emphasis on the development of targeted competencies while teams of participants work on real problems which have been given to them by a sponsor. This article examines the kinds of learning and learning transfer that took place in an international food company that was striving to become a global organization. Data were collected through both field observation and formal interviews and analyzed by a team of researchers. Conclusions about the degree of transfer and the mechanisms and process supporting it are presented. 相似文献

The assumption that specific learning disabilities are not causally related to emotional disturbances is crucial for the cognitive research approaches that endeavor to isolate specific malfunctioning cognitive-computational processes. Because there are conflicting data regarding the emotional status of subjects with learning difficulties, the purpose of this study was the evaluation of the emotional status of subjects with specific learning difficulties in comparison with that of subjects from several relevant control groups. The HSCL-90 profiles of 38 subjects suffering developmental dyslexia, 28 subjects with subjective complaints regarding general concentration and reading comprehension difficulties, and 23 psychiatric patients were compared with those of 44 skilled readers without any known emotional difficulties. All subjects were adolescents and young adults (age range = 15 to 23). A cluster analysis of subjects' HSCL-90 profiles did not reveal any significant differences between subjects with dyslexia and control subjects. Both groups, on the other hand, were easily differentiated from psychiatric patients. Subjects with severe deficits in their ability to remember details of a text, and with subjective complaints regarding concentration difficulties, tended to generate emotional profiles that testify to a high level of anxiety. Although these subjects, as well as individuals with dyslexia, may be regarded at the functional level as inefficient readers, the two groups seem to clearly differ regarding the failure factors that underlie their phenotypic difficulties. 相似文献

The present multimethod longitudinal study aimed at investigating development and stability of implicit memory during infancy and early childhood. A total of 134 children were followed longitudinally from 3 months to 3 years of life assessing different age‐appropriate measures of implicit memory. Results from structural equation modeling give further evidence that implicit memory is stable from 9 months of life on, with earlier performance predicting later performance. Second, it was found that implicit memory is present from early on, and no age‐related improvements are found from 3 months on. Results are discussed with respect to the basic brain structures implicit memory builds on, as well as methodological issues. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to develop an exercise protocol to simulate tennis matchplay on a 'category 2' surface. Match analyses were used to form the basis for the design of the protocol. The protocol involved playing against a tennis ball serving machine. Part A of the protocol comprised 92 min 46 s of simulated tennis matchplay; Part B consisted of continuous hitting to the point of 'volitional fatigue' or when the required hitting frequency for two consecutive ball feeds could no longer be maintained. Ten elite tennis players (5 males, 5 females) volunteered to participate in the study, which was performed on an indoor tennis court (Matchplay?, En-Tout-Cas)?. Their age, body mass and estimated maximal oxygen uptake were as follows: males, 21.7±1.0 years, 73.6±2.6 kg and 58.0±1.7 ml?·?kg?1?·?min?1, respectively; females, 21.9±1.3 years, 62.3±2.0 kg and 42.2±0.7 ml?·?kg?·?min?1, respectively (mean±). Heart rate, change in body mass and time to volitional fatigue were monitored. The heart rate responses of the participants to the simulated matchplay (range: 140-157 beats?·?min?1, 73-81% peak heart rate) were consistent with the results of previous studies, for 'actual' matchplay. This protocol was successful in simulating similar physiological responses in Part A to 'actual' matchplay on a 'category 2' surface, in a controlled environment; it was also a sensitive evaluation tool of skilled performance in Part B. The current protocol may be used as a baseline protocol for studying the influence of, for example, training and dietary intervention on performance. 相似文献

Exosomes, nanosized membrane-bound vesicles released by cells, play roles in cell signaling, immunology, virology, and oncology. Their study, however, has been hampered by difficulty in isolation and quantification due to their size and the complexity of biological samples. Conventional approaches to improved isolation require specialized equipment and extensive sample preparation time. Therefore, isolation and detection methods of exosomes will benefit biological and clinical studies. Here, we report a microfluidic platform for inline exosome isolation and fluorescent detection using inertial manipulation of antibody-coated exosome capture beads from biological fluids. 相似文献
