The EcoTarium Story—Past,Present, and Future

This paper outlines the story of the country's second-oldest natural history museum from its founding in 1825 to the present. Its history includes seven name changes reflecting the young society's struggle to survive, the changing cultural environment, and the extension of its audiences from the immediate Worcester neighborhood to the New England regional area. The article also reviews its scope from several cabinets of specimens to displays of wildlife, exhibitions about ecology, astronomy, and technology, along with comprehensive education programming.     

Counselor Education Students as Program Evaluators

Rarely are students given the opportunity to evaluate the total effect of a counselor education program on them as persons, learners, and emerging professionals. This article describes a comprehensive system analysis in which students evaluated their educational experience on such dimensions as faculty-student communication and decision making, psychological closeness, freedom to express deviant views, sexual and racial bias, and the degree to which the program climate encouraged them to be active rather than passive learners. Results categorized the program as consultative—a system in which power and authority are freely shared yet are not distributed equally.     

The Influence of Empathy and Negative Consequences on Ethical Decisions in Counseling Situations

Empathy was shown to be related positively to higher levels of ethical orientation in a study examining the effects of empathy and negative consequences on ethical judgments.     

Counselor Trainees' Attitudes Toward Mainstreaming the Handicapped

This study reports the results of a questionnaire on attitudes toward mainstreaming handicapped students administered to graduate counseling students at a Midwestern university. Implications for counselor education programs are suggested.     

Systematic Training in Client Documentation: Strategies for Counselor Educators
