Professional training for designers is crucial in the field of design studies. The characteristics of novices versus those of expert designers have been identified in the literature; however, studies exploring the issue of professional training processes in the actual workplace are not well developed. Our study addresses the topic by using qualitative research methods along with flexible design. Collected data from the interviewees with different work experience were analysed by open, axial and selective coding. Herein, we argue that the processes by which a designer transforms from a novice into an expert in the industry are constructed through the interaction of several complicated factors. The re‐learning inherent in design professions is implemented through knowledge transfer gained from participation in design projects, particularly regarding tacit knowledge. Also, the novice's process of learning and training yields the characteristics and skills that companies and firms require of designers; this process involves a series of disciplinary sub‐processes, from destructive to reconstructive, implemented by employers. In these sub‐processes, the subjectivity of designers is neglected, leading to the suppression of imaginative expression and feelings of alienation among these workers. 相似文献

There is a growing trend toward a consolidation of services for electronic resources management, A–Z journal listings, full text link resolving, and discovery services under a single service provider. In many cases, the adoption of a discovery service from a provider that is not the same as the libraries’ existing link resolver service means managing multiple knowledgebases. In this session, three librarians gave an overview of their experiences and strategies for maintaining separate link resolving and discovery services in lieu of adopting a full suite of services from a single service provider. Each speaker presented a case study on the advantages and challenges of managing their chosen discovery service: EBSCO Discovery Service, Ex Libris’ Primo and ProQuest’s Summon, in conjunction with the CUFTS/GODOT open source knowledgebase and link resolver service. 相似文献

A CD-ROM consisting of videos of two lessons by different teachers demonstrating exemplary science teaching was used to elicit,
develop and track the changing conceptions of good science teaching of student teachers enrolled for the one-year Postgraduate
Diploma in Education (PGDE) at several stages during the programme. It was found that the videos acted as an effective probe
to elicit student teachers’ conceptions and had significant impact on those conceptions at different stages of the programme
through the provision of teacher models demonstrating exemplary teaching. The experience has extended novice teachers’ awareness
of alternative teaching methods and approaches not experienced in their own schooling, broadened their awareness of different
classroom situations, provided proof of existence of good practices and prompted them to reflect on their current conceptions
of good science teaching. Most importantly, the strategy of asking student teachers to watch the same videos on three separate
occasions at different times of the course was recognized by them as a crucial element in facilitating their reflection on
their changing conceptions of good science teaching.
PGDE is the standard form of pre-service teacher education in Hong Kong. It provides qualified teacher status within Hong

Principals should play an important role as curriculum leaders in their schools. To discharge this role effectively, the principals must understand the nature of curriculum not only of the disciplines in which they have been trained, but also of other key disciplines commonly included in the school programme. A way must be found to train the principals to acquire up‐to‐date knowledge of the practices and trends in various subject curricula, so that they can carry out informed discussions with the heads of subject departments to set goals and directions for these programmes. This article focuses on such a programme, called the Diploma in Educational Administration (DEA), which has been developed at the Institute of Education, Singapore to train prospective principals. With the return of its sovereignty to the People's Republic of China (PRC) on 1 July 1997, Hong Kong attained a new political status as a Special Administrative Region. Hong Kong students, under British rule, had long been receiving de-politicised education, and a sense of belonging to China was limited to the cognitive domain of Chinese history. The ideal of promoting national identity, underpinned in the current civic education curriculum, is proving to be a difficult task. While much literature has documented how curriculumbased educational practices fail to instil students with such an identity, little study has been undertaken to suggest effective alternatives and to examine how they work. This paper reports a study investigating the impact of study trips on developing students' national identity. Through observation and interviews, it takes an in-depth look into students' experience, into how they identify with a Chinese identity. Results indicate that though the study trips help to nurture the cognitive and affective dimensions of national identity, there are limits and possibilities involved. This paper concludes with reminders which teachers should have taken into account when thinking of using co-curricular activities to address the legitimate need of fostering nationalistic education. 相似文献
