Consistent Estimation of Faculty Rank Effects in Academic Salary Models

Faculty rank is often included as an explanatory variable in academic salary models. Because there is reason to believe that this results in specification bias, rank effects should be estimated endogenously in salary models. A salary model in which faculty rank is endogenous is estimated in this article and the results are compared with those obtained from a conventional specification that treats rank as exogenous.
