Lugar de la psicología entre las ciencias sociales y biológicas

RESUMEN

El autor analiza el problema del lugar de la Psicología entre las ciencias sociales y las ciencias biológicas. Critica la “teoría de los dos factores”, que escinde bruscamente lo biológico de lo social en los procesos psíquicos. También es erróneo pensar que todas las formas de actividad psíquica dependen del factor biológico. La Psicología Soviética, como ya estudiaron en profundidad Vygotski y Leontiev, considera que hay que ir más allá de lo individual y buscar la procedencia de la actividad consciente en la vida social en que se desenvuelve el hombre. La Psicología no puede ser pues una ciencia puramente biológica o puramente social. El objeto de la psicología científica debe ser el estudio de las formas más complejas de la actividad consciente, social por su procedencia y realizada por el cerebro, y debe situarse en la frontera entre las ciencias naturales y las sociales.     

Electrochemical biosensors for on-chip detection of oxidative stress from immune cells

Seamless integration of biological components with electrochemical sensors is critical in the development of microdevices for cell analysis. The present paper describes the integration miniature Au electrodes next to immune cells (macrophages) in order to detect cell-secreted hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)). Photopatterning of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) hydrogels was used to both immobilize horseradish peroxidase molecules onto electrodes and to define regions for cell attachment in the vicinity of sensing electrodes. Electrodes micropatterned in such a manner were enclosed inside poly(dimethylsiloxane) fluid conduits and incubated with macrophages. The cells attached onto the exposed glass regions in the vicinity of the electrodes and nowhere else on the non-fouling PEG hydrogel surface. A microfluidic device was converted into an electrochemical cell by placing flow-through Ag∕AgCl reference and Pt wire counter electrodes at the outlet and inlet, respectively. This microdevice with integrated H(2)O(2)-sensing electrodes had sensitivity of 27 μA∕cm(2) mM with a limit of detection of 2 μM. Importantly, this microdevice allowed controllable seeding of macrophages next to electrodes, activation of these cells and on-chip monitoring of H(2)O(2) release in real time. In the future, this biosensor platform may be utilized for monitoring of macrophage responses to pathogens or for the study of inflammatory signaling in micropatterned cell cultures.

El artículo analiza las etapas iniciales de formación de la acción consciente en los niños, entendiendo por acción consciente aquella que obedece a un plan interno o programa. Se ha demostrado que esto exige la total conformación de las estructuras frontales del cerebro. A veces el cumplimiento del programa se mostrará en desacuerdo con las condiciones concretas de su cumplimiento y esto provocará un conflicto. Conflicto que será superado con la maduración gradual del niño y gracias al cual proseguirá la formación de la acción consciente.     

Mapping and measuring the information society: A social science perspective on the opportunities,problems, and prospects of broadband Internet data in the United States

Abstract

There are concerns across government, industry, and academia over the inadequacies of data on broadband Internet connections. These inadequacies are important to consider because government policies and regulations, industry strategies, and scholarly research can be impacted by inaccurate or distorted data. Given that there are ongoing discussions about policy initiatives to improve these data, this article sets out to critically review publicly available data, identify important limitations of these data, and profile studies that have used these data successfully. In this review, the dynamic nature of broadband data will be discussed and the tradeoffs of pursuing further investments to create better databases evaluated. This evaluation suggests a more fruitful research path would be to recognize and work around existing data drawbacks, using the studies profiled in this article as examples, to explore a multitude of issues related to broadband availability, adoption, and use.
