Authority,The Autonomy of The University,and Neoliberal Politics

Zdenko Kodelja's purpose in this essay is not to give a comprehensive explanation of the impact of neoliberal ideas and politics on authority (in all of its forms) of universities and their professors. His aims are much more modest: to sketch a theoretical framework for better understanding what the essence of authority is; to show that the relation between authority and trust is the key to explaining the effect of neoliberal politics on the authority of the university and university professors; to discuss professors' autonomy as deriving primarily from epistemic authority and to point out that what makes professors epistemic authorities is not the truth of what they say, but rather the students' belief that it is true; and to disclose some problems related to authority, university autonomy, and neoliberal politics.     

Philosophy of education in post-Soviet societies of Eastern Europe: Poland,Lithuania and Slovenia

This article explores the role of philosophy of education in three post-Soviet societies of Eastern Europe: Poland, Lithuania and Slovenia. The characteristic themes and approaches of philosophical reflection about education in these societies are explored with reference to three periods: the pre-Soviet, Soviet and post-Soviet periods.     

A follow-up study of students in Slovenia: The 1976 generation

The paper presents the main results of nearly nine years of a follow-up study. All Slovene secondary school students, who in scholastic year 1975/76 were in the last class of at least four-year secondary schools were followed-up during higher education from 1976/77 to 1983/84. Study efficiency is analyzed by gender, family educational background, type of secondary school, delay of the first enrollment, abilities, early scholastic achievement and regional development.
