Christmas Market Facing Problems

Christmas is a festival in European and American countries,therefore,it will bring a lot of profit for the manufactories which produce the decorations and gifts especially for the Christmas.However,with the spread of the financial crisis,the Christmas industry has undergone a recession period,and the profit has become little and little.The thesis will analyze the problems based on a real case study——Happy Christmas Company.     

Changes of Christmas

Compared with the lavish celebration＇in; the past, Christmas nowadays loses some old significance of the traditions. Christmas is not as pure a religious holiday as the past. With the fast development of the economy, Christmas becomes extravagant.

Festivals in China and America

Festival, an occasion when people come to enjoy themselves. Every country has its own traditional festivals, celebrated by all kinds of activities. In China, the most important festival is Spring Festival, while in America, the most important festival is Christmas. Festi val differences exist between China and America. With time elapsing, festival culture changes gradually and some new cultural phenome non occurs.

Chesterton wrote about Dickens’ fiction more than a century ago can lead to a better understanding of how subtle, provocative and topical the issues Chesterton raises are. His commentary on Dickens’ Christmas stories shows how an author-centred approach can bring his central concerns into sharper focus.

“Depend On,Rely On,Count On”: Economic Subjectivities Aboard <Emphasis Type="Italic">The Polar Express</Emphasis>

Christmas literature and film produced for children is an important, albeit under-researched, site for the production of cultural values and norms. This paper analyses Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 picture book The Polar Express, the 2004 Warner Brothers feature film of the same title, the film’s official website, and resources for teachers distributed online by Houghton Mifflin, considering how these texts construct childhood subjectivities in economic terms. The argument made is that nostalgic depictions of ordered, middle-class lifestyles, the representation of social class inequalities as immutable structural norms, and signifiers of corporate capitalism, together locate childhood and child subjectivities as inexorably tethered to socio-economic circumstance and experience. Dr. Sue Saltmarsh is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Teacher Education at Charles Sturt University, Australia, where she lectures in Cultural Politics of Education and Qualitative Research Methods. Sue’s recent work concerns the ways that cultural texts and practices construct children and childhood in economic terms, utilising poststructuralist theory as a lens through which to explore the discursive production of economic subjectivities.
