This study examined the relationships among communicator style, personality-based learning style, and sense of classroom community among 72 graduate students enrolled in online doctoral coursework. Findings suggested that communicator style patterns were related to learning styles and to classroom community. Moreover, the results of a canonical correlation suggested that friendly and open communicator styles were significantly related to feelings of being connected and the precise communicator style was related to both feelings of connectedness and to feelings that membership in the online learning community fostered educational goal attainment. No significant relationships were found between learning styles and classroom community.  相似文献

Abstract

Most racial-ethnic stereotypes about Asian Americans are constructed, activated, and perpetuated by the media, but very few empirical studies have ever investigated the extent to which people accept the media stereotypes about Asians. This study applied cultivation theory to examine whether people's perceptions of Asian Americans are consistent with media stereotypes and whether the media activated racial-ethnic stereotypes affect people's interaction behaviors with Asians. Results demonstrate that people's perceptions and judgments about Asian Americans are largely aligned with the media representations, and these stereotypes impact people's intent to interact with Asians. Four specific findings were obtained. First, among racial-ethnic groups in the U.S., Asians are perceived as most likely to achieve academic success; second, Asians are most likely to be perceived as nerds; third, Asians are perceived as most likely to be left out; and last, people are least likely to initiate friendship with Asians and Hispanics.  相似文献

Currently there is much interest in the research literature concerning sex differences for communicator style. This study investigated differences between males' and females' self‐perceptions on Norton's (1983) Communicator Style Construct and on the Social Style Profile (Buchholz, Lash brook & Wenberg, 1976). Forty‐three males and 42 females completed these measures as volunteers in a classroom setting. The results indicated that males' and females' self‐report responses do not differ significantly across these measures. An exploratory cluster analysis of communicator style provided a heuristic for future research.  相似文献

互动界面是以互联网为代表的数字互动媒介区别于传统媒介的最大特点,以互动界面为依托展开的界面传播是网络媒介传播的特质。本文在探讨媒介界面的基础上,明确界定了界面传播的内涵,提出界面传播的核心在于构建新型的传受关系的观点。在媒介受众充分占有媒介终端设备、可以方便灵活地借助界面行使参与权和表达权的媒介环境下,媒介经营者应该以界面传播的理念来促进与受众之间的关系,即使那些还没有将核心业务转移到数字互动媒介上的媒体,也应该利用互动界面的传播机制,不断满足受众的需求,从而提高媒介的竞争力。  相似文献

Relationship initiation research supports the existence of 5 styles of communicating romantic interest in others: traditional, physical, sincere, playful, and polite. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses on a large adult sample (N = 5,020) supported the existence of the styles. Styles predictably corresponded with self-monitoring and a 5-factor personality model. Women scored higher on all styles, except the playful style. Predictive validity was demonstrated by correlating styles to courtship initiation behaviors and past relationship experiences. The physical, sincere, and playful styles correlated with more dating success. The physical and sincere styles correlated with rapid relational escalation of important relationships with more emotional connection and greater physical chemistry.  相似文献
