Did London 2012 deliver a sports participation legacy?

Despite the increasing academic interest in the analysis of the Olympic legacy, there is a relative knowledge gap as far as sports participation legacy is concerned. The authors bridge this gap by analysing the short-term sports participation legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the adult population in England. By using data from the Active People Survey and considering different sports participation variables and the effect of the economic climate, results demonstrate a positive association with participation from hosting the Games. Participation rates were adjusted to take into account seasonality and changes in the gross domestic product (GDP), accounting in this way for the effect of the recent economic recession. The biggest effect was observed in relation to frequent participation (at least three times per week for at least 30 min) in the year immediately after the Games. In 2014, the sports participation rates fell relative to 2013 but remained higher than pre-Olympic levels. The sport participation legacy of the Olympic Games appeared to have significant differences between socio-demographic groups.

国家自主创新示范区产业转型升级水平测度及其影响因素研究

国家自主创新示范区测度产业转型升级的发展水平和探析各影响因素,对于推动国家自主创新示范区的产业可持续发展、更好发挥国家自主创新示范区的高质量区域经济引领作用,意义重大。研究联合体通过产业共性技术研发带动区域产业向价值链上游转移,为研究国家自主创新示范区的产业转型升级提供了新视角。选取2014-2019年我国21个国家自主创新示范区的面板数据,基于研究联合体的视角构建涵括产业结构水平、创新驱动水平、数智赋能水平和绿色发展水平四个维度的国家自主创新示范区产业转型升级水平测度体系,利用熵权TOPSIS模型评价国家自主创新示范区产业转型升级发展水平,并运用固定效应模型寻找其发展水平的影响因素。实证分析结果显示：示范区产业转型升级平均水平为0.470,处于中等水平;水平最高的深圳与最低的乌昌石之间的差为0.545,差距较大;东部示范区整体发展水平高于中西部;南方示范区产业转型升级平均水平为0.519远高于北方的0.3932,南北方差距明显。进一步分析影响因素表明：示范区研发创新能力与产业转型升级呈正相关,研发创新通过知识发现和技术创造带动示范区产业向价值链上游转移;人才支撑能力与示范区产业转型升级呈正相关,示范区通过提升人才存量进而引发“知识外溢”效应带动产业转型升级;创新服务能力与示范区产业转型升级呈正相关,示范区通过搭建良好的企业经营环境提供完善的保障服务促进产业转型升级;经济牵引能力对产业转型升级呈正相关,示范区通过吸引资源要素聚集促进产业转型升级;示范区开放合作能力未通过显著性检验,表明整体而言开放合作跟示范区产业转型升级的关系不大。鉴于此,示范区应搭建完善的研发创新环境、打造致力产业共性技术研究的研发平台、构建研发人才体系、探索差异化的产业转型升级路径。

对男子400m起跑反应时及分段速度的纵向研究

本文运用文献资料法和数理统计方法,对参加第六届和第七届世锦赛400M决赛的四名运动员的起跑反应时和分段速度与400M成绩的关系进行对比分析。结果表明,对同一位选手来说,在获得较好成绩的比赛中,他的反应时、0-50M和50-150M的速度相对较高,而保持速度阶段的速度却有下降的趋势。

Scaling-up Sustainable Land Management Practices through the Concept of the Rural Resource Centre: Reconciling Farmers' Interests with Research Agendas

Abstract

Purpose: Formal agricultural research has generated vast amount of knowledge and fundamental insights on land management, but their low adoption has been attributed to the use of public extension approach. This research aims to address whether and how full participation of farmers through the concept of Rural Resource Centre (RRC) provides new insights for the development of alternative and farmers-based extension methods.

Design/Methodology/Approach: Using the Concept of RRC, this research assesses the role of farmers in on-farm demonstrations and scaling-up of land management practices, and investigates effective ways to enhance beneficial interactions between researchers, extension workers and farmers in view of improving adoption.

Findings: The findings suggest that farmers can effectively participate in demonstrations and scaling-up of agricultural practices. This participation is enhanced by judicious incentives such as higher crop yields that motivate farmers and influence adoption. The current success of the approach stems from the fact that farmers, extension workers and researchers jointly implement the activities and their different aims were achieved simultaneously: scientific results for researchers, better agricultural practices for extension workers, and economic success and free choice for farmers.

Practical implications: This research concludes that farmers have the capacities to play an innermost role in demonstrations and scaling-up of agricultural practices. However, there is a need to build and strengthen their capacities to facilitate their participation and contribution.

Originality/Value: The article demonstrates the value of the preponderant role of farmers in on-farm demonstrations and scaling-up practices by exhibiting the beneficial interactions between researchers, extension workers and farmers.
