《露西》组诗中流露着强烈的死亡主题。华兹华斯的死亡意识与他矛盾的自然观有一定的联系。在《露西》组诗中,自然既有慈爱的一面,又有破坏性的一面。华兹华斯对于自然的这种双重性困惑不解。他崇尚自然对人性的净化作用;而又感觉到在自然法则下人生短暂易逝,死亡不可避免却又无可预见。在露西的英年早逝和其带来的孤寂中痛苦挣扎,他最终意识到死亡是生命回归自然的媒介之一。死亡使得生命复归神性,得以在宇宙万物中永生。华兹华斯的这种死亡意识反映了他对生命意义的沉思以及对人生终极走向的关怀。  相似文献

This article introduces a selection of presentations from the 21st International Rights Directors Meeting held at the 2007 Frankfurt Book Fair It offers an overview of a variety of issues related to negotiating digital rights, in particular, and the development of digital publishing, in general. Topics covered include current business models, opportunities for licensing, and methods for negotiating contracts. Publishers are sanguine about the possibilities; though acknowledge that the digital rights business is still in its formative stages. Agents and author advocates are concerned that digital advances may lead to devaluation of writer’s works. Downloadable audiobooks have already created a new market, though e-books have yet to gain traction and are awaiting a device or software application that make them available to a wide audience.  相似文献

This historical research describes the strategies used by the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and several other periodicals to discuss the incorporation of Lucille Ball's pregnancy into her television sitcom, I Love Lucy. This important media event occurred in the early 1950s and marked the first time that an image of pregnancy and childbirth would be depicted on national television. Although the inclusion of sexual content in the mass media was highly controversial at the time of Ball's pregnancy, this analysis concluded that the press was generally favorable in its treatment of the topic. Journalists highlighted the popularity of the event, praised I Love Lucy creators for their sensitive treatment of the topic, and drew comparisons between characters' on-screen and off-screen lives. This research elucidates the emergence of representations of pregnancy and childbirth on television that are now commonly featured in modern broadcast programming.  相似文献

The mother-daughter issue is a common topic throughout many of Jamaica Kincaid's novels. Annie Potter, Lucy's mother has great influence on Lucy's thoughts and acdon. The author not only uses it to explore the complex tension between mothers and daughters, but also uses it to represent the strained relations between colonized region and colonial power. The role of work-integrated learning (WIL) is a popular focus at many universities, including among academics in the business disciplines in Australia. This article explores whether a mentoring programme provided for female business and law students results in similar benefits as those reported for WIL activities and, hence, provides career- and study-related benefits for the participating students. While research into mentoring is not a new phenomenon, this qualitative study focuses on mentees as students who are assigned mentors from a range of organisations, rather than the typical studies which have both parties employed in an organisational context. The study explores the career-related and psycho-social benefits reported by students in a mentoring programme, including increased confidence, improved knowledge about their chosen profession, stronger career focus/understanding and, for some, opportunities leading to employment post-study. These benefits are then considered in relation to how they mirror the outcomes of WIL. While the sample size is small, the findings have implications for academics and career development professionals in higher education seeking to better integrate theoretical knowledge with the realities of the workplace, thereby helping to prepare students more effectively for their careers.  相似文献
