What successful black South African students consider as factors of their success

Black South African students have a poor success rate in school leaving mathematics examinations. Attempts have been made to shift teachers' practices from teacher-centredness to learner-centredness, in Black schools, in order to improve the situation. So far, the attempts failed to yield the desired results. This paper reports on the findings of a study that aimed at learning from students and teachers in Black schools, as to what classroom practices lead to success in school mathematics, in their impoverished context.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

当前我国运动训练实践的新思维

重视运动过程,深入研究动态的技术细节,已经成为准确把握项目运动特征的基础和前提条件。对运动能力的认识不能仅停留在静态的距离或时间上,而应该深入到运动的过程中,捕捉并把握关键指标的动态变化,了解运动的全过程。运动训练应转变训练理念,从传统的大运动量低强度训练转变到大运动量高强度的高负荷训练模式上来,这个训练模式称为“高负荷训练法”。无论是以体能为主导的项群,还是以技能为主导的项群,都需要“以赛代练”,但不能“重赛轻练”。运动员在获得“最高运动成绩”时,并不处于“最佳准备状态”。     

Peripheral Ritualized Practices—Threads Connecting Decorations to the Cloak of Identity

This is an ethnographic study which investigates the practices of language maintenance and ethnic identity affiliation for immigrant/migrant Nepalese families with primary to middle school children in the United Kingdom. The study presents a comparative case study analysis of three Nepalese immigrant/migrant families. Participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and historical narrative interview were used. The study investigated prior exposure to home country, ethnic, cultural, and social literacy practices that occurred in various contexts during a nine-month period. This analysis revealed a phenomenon I termed peripheral ritualized practices. Exposure to peripheral ritualized practices over time creates positive changes in attitudes toward multilingualism and diversity.     

提高游泳运动员水感的练习方法初探

近年来,专家、学者们已经提出了多种多样有利于提高水感的练习方法。在此基础上,本文把水感的各种练习方法归纳为技术练习法、阻力练习法和心理练习法三种并对其进行分析,旨在提高运动员和教练员对水感的再认识,更好地发挥水感的作用,更有利于对优秀游泳运动员的培养。     

我国财务报告内部控制的法规建设与执行困境

面对上市公司披露虚假会计信息给投资者和资本市场造成的重大损失,中国的监管机构也越来越重视企业内部控制的法规建设,不断完善内部控制的法制体系。2008年财政部等五部委联合发布了《企业内部控制基本规范》;2010年4月26日,财政部等又发布《企业内部控制规范配套指引》,要求2011年开始在境内外同时上市的公司施行,自2012在沪深两市主板上市公司施行,鼓励非上市大中型企业提前施行。2011年10月11日,为了配合规范及指引的推行,注册会计师协会发布了《企业内部控制审计指引实施意见》。笔者主要描述了我国财务报告内部控制规范体系的建立过程,分析了其在执行中可能存在的问题,并尝试着提出了改进意见和建议。     

广西体育专业大学生营养状况及营养知识、态度、行为调查研究

根据健康教育的“知-信-行”模式,设计“K-A-P”调查问卷表,调查1200名学生的营养知识、态度及营养行为,测学生的身高、体重,用身高标准体重法评价营养状况,旨在了解广西体育专业大学生营养状况及营养知识、态度、行为,为进一步作好大学生的营养健康教育提供依据。     

Balancing the Local and the Global in Infrastructural Information Systems

A considerable body of literature has demonstrated-- empirically as well as analytically--that information systems need to be situated to the local context of use. Yet for infrastructural information systems that span numerous contexts spread out globally, this is literally prohibitive. For these systems to work, it is necessary to strike a balance between sensitiveness to local contexts and a need to standardize across contexts. We analyze a key element in this, namely, spelling out the (largely invisible) "costs" that the different actors pay to achieve working solutions. Empirically, we draw from an ongoing case study. We analyze the attempts of a maritime classification company with 5500 employees located in 300 sites in 100 countries to develop an infrastructural information system to support the surveying of ships globally. We elaborate design implications and concepts relevant to developing information infrastructures that also apply to the context of developing countries.

E-Government institutionalizing practices of a land registration mapping system

Delivering on the promise of E-Government (E-Gov) to implement IT-enabled changes implies that processes and service delivery modifications are incorporated into the routine operations of the public sector. This is referred to as institutionalization. In contrast, institutionalizing E-Gov involves practices through which system functionalities and procedures come to assume an embedded status within the organizational environment. Prior research has focused on institutionalization but offered few clues on these institutionalizing practices of E-Gov within organizations. Our theoretical framework posits that institutionalizing of E-Gov can be analyzed as situated practices. We apply this conceptual approach to analyze the case of an 11-year implementation of a strategic E-Gov project that automated the land mapping registration services and their delivery to the public. We examine institutionalization outcomes as construction of actor-networks and institutionalizing practices as enactment of actor-network reconfiguration. Our findings provide evidence of black-box status for some E-Gov functions and situated institutionalization for others. We thereby extend the research on E-Gov post-adoption and post-implementation behaviors by providing early evidence of generic institutionalization measures and institutionalizing practices.
