行业特色院校英语学科与专业建设互动机制的建立——从中、美英语学科与专业设置的差异谈起

我国现行的学科与专业目录包括1997年版《授予博士、硕士学位和培养研究生的学科、专业目录》、2012年版《高等学校本科专业目录》以及2011年版《学位授予和人才培养学科目录》.美国的学科与专业目录被称为Classification of Instructional Programs（CIP）.美国的学科、专业分类系统无论在编制理念上还是技术上都比较完善和成熟,它给我国行业特色院校英语学科与专业互动机制的建立带来了一定的启示.美国加州大学洛杉矶分校（UCLA）的语言学科的院系设置和课程设置,也为我国行业院校英语学科的建设提供了宝贵经验.     

UCLA教学训练营项目的启发与思考

高素质的大学教师队伍建设需要教师发展项目的支持,海外培训项目给教师带来诸多有益的反思。本文通过对UCLA暑期教学训练营项目的具体剖析,从教育主体的基本情况和观念、教师的教学理念、教学效益的认知、教学效果的测量方式、教学方法及策略五个方面比较了中美大学课程教学的异同。在目前教育部大力提倡高校要打造"金课"、拒绝"水课"的目标下,结合UCLA教学训练营的学习心得和体会,提出笔者的思考,给出几点具体的建议。     

美国高水平综合性大学在线课程建设模式、保障机制及启示——以加州大学洛杉矶分校为例

在线课程建设已成为当下高等教育发展的新趋势,在教学内容、教学方法、教学管理等领域引发了深刻变革。美国是推行在线教育最早的国家,研究其成功经验和课程建设特点,能够为我国在线课程建设提供有益借鉴。以加州大学洛杉矶分校为案例,在系统阐述该校在线课程建设模式及保障机制的基础上,分析国内高校在线课程建设存在的问题,有针对性地提出课程设计、支持服务、质量保障、平台开发等方面的改革对策与建议。

California Cultures: Implementing a Model for Virtual Collections

SUMMARY

This article highlights the California Cultures Project as a case study examining the architecture and framework required to support the deployment of digital objects as virtual collections at the California Digital Library. Chronologically arranged, it describes the Online Archive of California (OAC) Working Group's functional requirements for access to digital objects independent of parent finding aids, and the development and implementation of infrastructures supporting this vision. Discussion includes project organization and content selection for digitization, Web site service vision for K-12 teacher target audience, best practices for encoding, data standards, lesson plans, metadata requirements, METS creation tools, project manuals, repositories, search engines, tools enabling customizable interfaces, user assessment, and usability testing.     

UCLA's Polish Collections and Collecting Poland at the UCLA Library: 2006–2011

The author's purpose in this article is to acquaint the reader with some interesting aspects of the UCLA library's collection of Poland-related and Polish-language print materials. Then, the author gives an account of the strategies for the collection development activities that he undertook from 2006 to 2011, during his curatorial tenure at UCLA's Young Research Library, to revitalize the Polish-language collection. Lastly, the author describes a methodology he used to assess the effectiveness of these activities; this methodology should be of broad interest to anyone involved in area- or language-focused collection development.     

A transition model for placement of handicapped children in regular and special classes

Mainstreaming and deinstitutionalization are current phenomena which call for a variety of handicapped children to be transitioned to a range of educational settings not previously available to them. A model is presented in which critical transition parameters are conceived as functionally related continua, indicating degrees of readiness for both special and regular classroom settings. The model is based upon actual experience in placement of disturbed, learning disabled, and retarded children into school settings after discharge from a psychiatric hospital.     

“Education against the Grain”: Examining the Evolution of Media Archival Training at UCLA

Abstract

This essay broadly analyzes the history and current state of media archival education through a case study of two graduate degrees previously and currently offered at UCLA: the interdepartmental Moving Image Archive Studies (MIAS) MA degree and the MLIS degree with specialization in Media Archival Studies.
