Recording the war effort: immigrant communities in Latin America and the memory of the Great War

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to analyse the initiatives undertaken by some immigrant communities residing in Latin America to record their mobilisation around the First World War. After the armistice, European communities in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and other countries gathered detailed information about their activities during the conflict, published as profusely illustrated books of remembrance, offered to their governments as proof of their loyalty. The article intends to establish the peculiar nature of these publications as records of the war effort, and analyse the agents and processes of their elaboration, and their role as commemorative but also as archival documents.

采用文献资料的方法,综合考察我国近现代学校武术百年发展历程.研究认为:1)近代学校武术是在古代学校武术的基础上发展起来的,这与当时的历史背景和教育需要是分不开的;2)近代学校武术的发展首先是来自于"土洋之争","尚武精神"在学校得到捍卫,但是武术教学情况发展很不平衡,武术师资经历了聘请到培养的过程;3)现代学校武术向着规范化方向发展,体育院校武术教育不断扩展,各地武术馆校层出不穷;4)近现代学校武术的发展给我们的启示:东西文化的撞击使学校武术得到了新发展;学校武术的发展需要有长远的规划作保障;学校武术水平的提高是以师资力量为基础.

乾隆版《曲阜县志·类编·著述》,是汇集历代邑人著述的综合性书目 ,所收之书分类部居 ,并撰有部序、类序 ,指明授受源流。每书除著录书名、作者、卷数等基本事项 ,有的还注有官职、考注。是方志书目中比较好的一种。但其中问题也不少 ,如张冠李戴、归类不当、体例不纯、遗漏严重等 ,极大的影响了该书目的参考价值。

A Model of Translations

This paper attempts to model translations from one language intoanother. Book markets are an integral part of the cultural life of anation, and new ideas on political, social and cultural aspects arespread by means of books. It is a fact, however, that linguisticbarriers will often prevent a book from reaching a mass audience unlessit is translated. But the mechanism involved in translations has notbeen adequately described. A model is presented here in three steps: Thefirst step is to determine the number of new books in an economy. Thenext step is to determine the propensity to import translated works fromother countries. The final step is to determine from which language thetranslation will originate. This provides a basis for judging thecultural affinity between nations.
