'She just got me’: supporting care experienced young people negotiating relationships and identities at school

In this article we examine the complex relationship between care experience, mental health and exclusion from school and how young people (YP) negotiate these different experiences and identities. The study is a secondary analysis, informed by symbolic interactionist theory, of interviews conducted with 19 care experienced YP in Scotland. Not all of the YP were excluded and not all had a formal mental health diagnosis, as such our study design allows interrogation of the contexts and relationships which not only facilitate but also disrupt pathways to exclusion. It also allows reconsideration of assumptions of vulnerability which are often applied to care experienced YP. Our findings suggest that these YP are moving beyond ‘role playing’ the identities ascribed to them and actively seek out relationships which enable them to construct alternative identities.     

The RIX Wiki: the use of multimedia advocacy to support person-centred planning in a special needs secondary school – implications for current policy and practice

The article documents findings from a pilot study undertaken in 2012–2013 in a special needs secondary school in the England, that trialled the use of a multimedia advocacy tool, “The RIX Wiki”. The trial was part of the pathfinder programme, which aimed to reform existing Special Education Needs provision, from the system of statementing to one of developing education health care plans. The reforms became enshrined in the Children and Families Act (2014). The findings were overall positive and helped with person-centred planning processes. The discussion is framed within current and future policy directives. We argue that multimedia advocacy approaches and software tools, like the “RIX Wiki” will have a continued role to play in ensuring the needs, aspirations and choices of children and young people with learning disabilities remain central.     

The Mystery Room: discovering the flexibility of an information literacy-based educational escape room

Abstract

The Mystery Room is an educational escape room based on information literacy and applied to multiple audiences, including first-year students and library student employees. In this article, we explain how we developed the game, its theoretical underpinnings, and why it’s a flexible workshop for a variety of audiences.     

The effect of number of siblings and birth order on educational attainment: Empirical Evidence from Chinese General Social Survey

Data from China demonstrate that the effect of the number of siblings on education is restricted by many factors, such as children’s gender, urban or rural household registration, whether there is only one child, the birth order of children within the family, and parents’ status. Chinese families have significant preferences for the eldest son and the youngest son. Moreover, research based on the natural experiment and instrumental variable approach suggests that market-oriented reform of education has increased the cost of family education expenditures since China’s reform and opening up, which further aggravates the negative impact on education of having many siblings in an urban setting.     

跳远助跑速度变化对起跳效果的影响——国内外优秀运动员与我院选手的比较分析

笔者采用高速摄影、影片解析、数理统计等方法对西安体育学院男子跳远运动员和国内外优秀选手助跑速度变化而影响起跳效果的因素进行比较研究。结果表明:跳远助跑各段落速度的变化对起跳效果及成绩产生很大影响;西安体育学院男子跳远运动员绝对速度低,起跳前两步速度、速度利用率呈下降趋势,影响起跳初速度;跳远起跳前一步的速度、速度利用率对提高起跳效果要比起跳前9—10m段的速度、速度利用率更具有实际意义。     

普通高校体育课编班教学改革实验研究

体育课教学是高等学校体育工作的核心。教学质量的好坏直接影响学生的体质。但是 ,现行的班级体育授课制仍然是沿袭以智力、高考分数为核心 ,方便文化课教学的编班制进行体育课教学 ,这无疑影响学生体质的发展和终身体育思想的形成 ,而且给体育课教学带来许多困难。因此 ,从发展学生体质和培养终身锻炼习惯的实际需要出发 ,打破单纯按智力、分数的分班制是当前高校体育教学工作中亟待解决的问题。     

论奥林匹克运动的教育价值

从现代奥林匹克运动的复兴 ,奥林匹克主义、理想 ,到现代奥林匹克运动所出现的“人文危机”等方面对奥林匹克运动的教育价值进行了深入的探讨 ,旨在加强对奥林匹克精神的理解 ,为 2 0 0 8年北京举办奥运会创造良好的社会体育环境。     

幼儿乳酸阈值及无氧阈心率的初步研究

对33名幼儿乳酸阈及其心率值进行测定,结果显示:3～5岁幼儿AT时血乳酸水平显著低于成人及青少年;幼儿亚极量强度运动后乳酸峰值大多出现在负荷后1min,反映了幼儿机体代谢的特异性.此实验结果可为幼儿有关生理机能和能量代谢的研究提供参数,所测得的乳酸阈心率值将为幼儿健身、减肥、增高等运动处方中运动强度控制提供科学依据.     

运动后乳酸清除率与运动能力的关系

测定中跑运动员、足球运动员和常人在800m全力跑后的血乳酸浓度、乳酸清除率和心率恢复率，研究无氧运动能力与最高乳酸值、心率恢复率与乳酸清除率之间的关系。结果发现：运动员的无氧耐力成绩和运动后5min血乳酸值呈显著负相关；中跑运动员较足球运动员和常人有更强的产生乳酸能力和更高的乳酸清除率；心率的恢复速度较乳酸清除率更快。说明良好的产生乳酸能力是无氧耐力成绩的重要因素，良好的乳酸清除率有利于乳酸的清除和运动后的恢复，同时运动后的心率恢复率并不能反映体内乳酸的清除情况。     

20世纪二三十年代"乡村教育运动"的特点及其现实启迪

“乡村教育运动”具有实施主体民间性、教育对象全民化和教育内容适用性的特点。它对当今农村教育改革的借鉴和启示在于:民间力量应该以多种形式积极参与农村教育的改革和发展;农村教育的对象应该包括以成人为主体的农村社会的全体成员;农村教育的内容必须适合当前农民多元化的教育需求。
