Meeting Information Needs through Global Partnerships: A Roadmap to Becoming a Global Health Sciences Library

Abstract

Supporting global health priorities through the development of robust health science librarianship partnerships is of significant importance. Increased demand for synthesizing evidence-based information, collating quality resources, and increasing research productivity to improve human health requires integration of library and information science skills and expertise. The Health Sciences Library (HSL) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), exists to be an indispensable partner in health information and knowledge, teaching and learning, and research. As global efforts at UNC expanded, the HSL sought to ensure that our global engagement strategy and integration were aligned with campus priorities and partner needs. The HSL created a global research partnership plan: identify resources that improve efficiency, increase access to information, build in-country capacity and expertise—all while strengthening collaborations across multiple countries. Creating a meaningful and sustainable engagement strategy was central to envisioning our path forward and can be used as a framework for consideration by librarians in similar settings.

[目的/意义]欧洲阅读联盟是欧洲社会力量开展阅读活动的母平台，联盟成员所开展的阅读活动既有差异，也有共性，社会影响力大。通过对欧洲阅读联盟成员所办阅读活动及其规律的分析，可为我国公共图书馆主导与开展阅读活动提供借鉴。[方法/过程]概述欧洲阅读联盟，对其成员类型进行解析，并对每一成员的阅读项目进行共性分析，凝练出阅读活动的经验及规律。[结果/结论]我国应建立多级阅读推广力量，建立政府购买阅读服务长效机制，开放图书馆的阅读活动空间，提升阅读活动频率，开发多样化、差异化的阅读活动。     

A Bioethos for Bodies: Respecting a Priceless Resource

The value that willed body donors provide to medical education is priceless. Their precious gift helps to teach anatomy, spatial relationships between morphological structures, anatomical variation, and professionalism to medical students in a way that plastic models, podcasts, and lectures cannot. They are also an important resource for medical research and a wide variety of postgraduate training opportunities. While many body donation programs throughout the world are nonprofit organizations, there are body donation companies in the United States that sell donors for-profit. These “body brokers” have accumulated large profits from this business. It is incongruous that others would profit from such a priceless, freely donated gift. To prevent this incongruity, it is proposed that the international anatomical community develop a normative culture (a bioethos) for body donation programs. This would involve the conscious and systematic development of ethical principles for the day-to-day policies and practices of institutions that collect and use human bodies. With the development of this bioethos, a cultural shift in how donors are treated would occur and, over time, this would become the normal practice. These principles would become fundamental and foundational for the procurement and use of priceless human tissues.     

Proclaiming Library Worth in a Program Prioritization Process at a Mid-Sized Public University

Abstract

In an economic climate when colleges can no longer presume that legislators see institutions of higher learning as tacit public goods, institutions around the country are facing budget cuts. This article presents a case study of the experience of a mid-sized public state university and its Library in a budget crisis undergoing a university-wide program prioritization process. The authors review the process of writing three reports on the Library’s value, along with the approach to engaging staff in the process including a retreat. This article raises questions about what every library should consider assessing and provide tools for libraries navigating similar terrain.     

Using the Information Structure Model to Compare Profile-Based Information Filtering Systems

In the IR field it is clear that the value of a system depends on the cost and benefit profiles of its users. It would seem obvious that different users would prefer different systems. In the TREC-9 filtering track, systems are evaluated by a utility measure specifying a given cost and benefit. However, in the study of decision systems it is known that, in some cases, one system may be unconditionally better than another. In this paper we employ a decision theoretic approach to find conditions under which an Information Filtering (IF) system is unconditionally superior to another for all users regardless of their cost and benefit profiles.It is well known that if two IF systems have equal precision the system with better recall will be preferred by all users. Similarly, with equal recall, better precision is universally preferred. We confirm these known results and discover an unexpected dominance relation in which a system with lower recall will be universally preferred provided its precision is sufficiently higher.     

对体育教育专业专项选修课现状与改革的研究

采用问卷调查和逻辑分析方法，对我院体育教育专业(本科)在读学生进行了调查分析，了解我院现行体育教育专业(本科)专项选修课设置的相关情况。结果表明：我院现行体育教育专业(本科)，专项选修课课程设置上存在量课时少、开课时间迟的现象，与社会的需要、学生的愿望以及专项选修课自身的教学规律不相适应。     

关于三段论一般规则存在依据的思考

三段论理论是人类有史以来第一个真正的理论体系.选择有效式是构造三段论理论重要的一环.三段论一般规则是一种最简单实用的选择方法,但却存在理由不足的缺陷.包含关系的概念内涵之间所具有的蕴涵关系,能够单一地引申或者说充分地论证三段论全部一般规则,甚至能直接识别出三段论每一个具体的有效式,从而为采用一般规则做有效式选择标准的三段论理论提供了可靠的理论依据.     

高校体育教育专业实践课的英文教学

在华南师范大学体育教育专业团体操选修课的实践课中实施英文教学，两轮英文教学实验不仅没有影响专业课的教学质量，还有助于提高学生学习英语的积极性和教师应用英语进行专业课教学的能力。     

高校民族体育与全民健身相结合的新思路

中华民族五千年的文明创造了许多优秀的传统文化,而民族传统体育就是其中的一朵奇葩。高校民族体育教学改革应以发展学生身体、终身锻炼意识、运动能力、社会适应性为首要任务。尤其民族院校应充分发挥自身的优势,建立民族体育教学改革与全民健身计划相结合的新模式,以期培养出适应社会需要的新一代人才。     

从日本区域社会的健康体育事务谈我国全民健身计划的普及推广

国民的整体健康水平，直接反映出一个国家政治制度的优劣，和经济基础、社会明等的发达程度，因此关于健康体育事务的研究得到了广大专家学的高度重视。以介绍日本区域社会的健康体育事务发展现状为基础，结合我国的具体情况，着重阐述了个人对我国全民健身计划推广普及的“工作重点不同、行动步调一致，把握实际需求、狠抓组织落实，关心弱势群体、真正全民健身和加强制度建设、形成保障体系”等对策建议。
